Gov. Bill Lee will sign drag bill, reacts to yearbook photo showing him dressed as a woman

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said Monday he intends to sign an anti-drag show bill into law when it reaches his desk, the first time he has publicly taken a position on the legislation.

 

The legislation bans “adult-oriented entertainment” that is “harmful to minors” from public property and places where they might be seen by children.

 

The law specifically mentions “go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers” and “male or female impersonators” — the latter of which includes drag performers.

Do they have a lot of strip clubs on public property in Tennessee?

 

A lot of these laws seem to strain Constitutionality on a number of fronts. And leave the definition of "prurient" as, well, undefined. I guess Police and public prosecutors will be left to judge what is acceptable.

After state lawmakers voted 77-16 to move the legislation to the desk of Republican Gov. Public employees might invite "shows" to take place on public property. Might even include schools.

No. And "prurient" has sufficient precedent in law. Challenges will go nowhere.

What makes you think it was a lot of time? Misuse of public property and the protection of children are important enough issues to be addressed, actually. Now why can't they also address even bigger problems? Have state & local gov'ts who aren't passing these laws addressed their obviously bigger issues that have only gotten worse in the past few years? No. So I don't see your point.
