A 57-year-old Finnish expat was found dead in his bed with a cut throat and a chopping knife on his chest. His Thai wife told police the man had been ruminating about suicide for a long time due to domestic problems in his homeland.

 

The victim was found dead on Tuesday morning, February 28th. He lived together with his Thai wife, 49-year-old Mrs. Aranya Srisaeng, at a single-storey detached house in the Bang Saray sub-district of Sattahip district, Chonburi. His death was reported at 8:30 AM.

 

According to police, the Finnish expat was only clad in a pair of underpants. He suffered a deep cut to his throat, which severed his windpipe. A chopping knife was found on his chest. The foreigner’s wife was the first person who saw the body, according to her. She was crying and sitting in the room when the authorities and rescue team arrived.

 

According to her statements, she and her husband had lived together for five years without registering their marriage. Previously, the expat had returned and stayed in Finland for a couple of years. The man just came back about nine months ago and decided to buy a house.

I think the cutting part is the hardest bit.  The lying still I think is easier.

Yes, my great grandfather did, with a razor.

Odds are 0.00009% death by cutting your own throat.   Yes, it's possible, but I would investigate for another explanation!!!!

Slitting your own throat would be horrible...

 

In the west this would lead to a major investigation.....Here...Well.....We all know the vertic on almost all farang deaths...

Hanging yourself is a violent way to die too. Its like slowly drowning yourself. Some ppl are so distraught and full of emotion that they want it to be violent. Otherwise everyone would bring their barbecue into a small room, turn it on and find a comfortable chair

It is possible for someone to slit their own throat and then lie still until they bleed to death. However, it is not common for individuals to be able to commit suicide in this way. 

The act of cutting one's own throat requires a significant amount of force, and it is difficult to do so without causing extreme pain and trauma to oneself. Furthermore, after inflicting such a wound, the natural reaction of the body would be to attempt to stop the bleeding and seek medical attention.

In some cases, a person may be able to overcome their instinctual response to seek medical attention and lie still until they bleed to death. However, it is important to note that suicide is a complex issue, and there may be many factors at play in any given situation

Forget about him slitting his own throat. Of course that is possible, but how could he do that AND  then somehow stabbed or cleaved himself in the chest with the chopping knife.

I think they are just saying he placed the knife on his chest after cutting his throat.

Just as well the woman didn't say he strangled himself to death too.

The article said that the Finn had troubles in Finland, not with his Thai wife.

If y'all don't know, the Scandinavians have the highest rate of suicide, and a butcher knife would have enough mass to drag across one's own throat and cut deeply, as opposed to the thin kitchen knives I normally see in Asian kitchens.

Messy, but fairly quick way to go as the brain rapidly loses oxygen.

Not my choice of exit though.

and what does "domestic problems in his homeland" mean exactly?

he was juggling a wife in thailand and a wife back home? 

His "domestic problems" in Finland, so very far away,

must have been extreme to prompt him to take

such a cruel egress.

In Germany, we tend to say erste Anhaltspunkte (initial clues or indicators). Who stands to gain or get what in the event of his demise.

 

Those injuries though. I have my reservations but will refrain from sharing them as I don't want to be labeled a presumptuous wannabe-detective. 

 

Generally however you add up all the indicators and form an opinion.

If you think hanging is any better, it isn't.

But since we are here to discuss it, none of us have that level of depression/mental illness to understand what would motivate someone to do that.
