Manchester city UK to charge tourists to stay in hotels

Most of the US charges a city or county tax on the hotels and its not just tourists who are charged the transient tax rates, it's everyone renting a hotel or motel...

That was my point by posting what I did above.  I thought that the entire world as far as tourist destinations charged the transient tax rates at hotels so that the local infrastructure could be kept up with all of the visitors, including locals.  Just looked at a prior receipt for when we stayed at the Britannia, and it does not show anything for extra taxes except the VAT, of course I booked it through Booking when we went.  Looking now there is a City tax and a tourism fee. If we went the same time as we did before, looking at the same dates but for this year those new taxes are minimal, but the VAT is now 20%....crazy.
