Pattaya, Thailand-The Thai New Year, Songkran, also known as the water festival, is less than two weeks away but many Pattaya residents and ex-pats have raised concern about the level of domestic and foreign tourists and long-standing traffic issues.

Although there are various road construction projects taking place across Pattaya, one of the biggest concerns is Second Road and Threpprasit Road. Beach Road is also in the middle of a construction project but it primarily affects walkways and not the road.

A social media group dedicated to calling out problems and issues, Pattaya Watchdog, has regularly been raising concerns about Second Road in particular, especially near the Walking Street and Avenue Mall area, saying the construction, which has gone on for many months, has become a major choke point and traffic problem.

In the Thailand they have never heard of work planning. Many times on very busy days the start or just have started works on roads...They need to block everywhere, on the road in the supermarket, on markets, just name it......Thinking is required

The best solution is ban Songkran from the centre of Pattaya .................................LOL

Yesterday the roads were nose to tail traffic, despite it not being songkran and no road works at the places where I saw this.

Thai style...

And much too hot at this time of year for any traffic cops to be out doing their duty in helping with traffic flow. Instead we have a free for all that includes running red lights while tight behind the car in front.

Or, as I saw yesterday, running right into the car in front!

There must be a very high level of stupid required to get a job in local councils in Thailand.

Like this disaster in Pattaya....so many places start civil road works in towns and create bedlam for locals....never completing sections before starting new areas...but opening the whole project at once and never completing anything!

I know this road construction has been going on for a while, but why didn't someone think to start it a couple of years ago, when it was relatively quiet?????

Oh forever.........

Wife's away for 2-3 weeks back in Nan for this silly time, beers here, wife cooking for the fridge for the time she is away, Chickens in the freezer, nibbles arriving soon.

Time to just sit in the house 24/7 in my unwashed pants, drink the beer and play video games all day and night let it go by.
