Then the slate is clean. You really think Thaksin's fan club could prevent a coup? ???????? Yes IMO they can. However the charges against Thaksin were brought under the direction of the military coup which illegally ousted him in 2006. If the coup was illegal (and it was), then the charges must be illegal as well. 2 1

Does Thailand really need the vote buying & his own brand of corruption back that he was so good at? I doubt it. Like you I was here it was him that put up all the immigration fees, marriage extension 200k to 400k retirement extension from 400k to the 800k visa fees 500 baht to 1900 baht, daily overstay fine 200baht/day to 500 baht/day, the reason for the increase ? he said at the time farangs were getting a good exchange rate, Pound Sterling was about 60 baht/pound, and they could afford it. He used to give his weekly address on Thai radio a friend of mine and his Thai wife use to listen he said it was often anti-foreigner. But Thai's say look what he did for the poor 30-baht heath care scheme brought the Thai pension helped the sick and disabled, wife's autistic daughter got a payment. Someone said people where only interested in money, true but if you do not have a lot to start with anything free from the government would be welcome, and not forgotten, hence him and his party /family are still very popular.

They can make it very difficult for him, but he has millions of supporters who would support him. IMO if the military were to have yet another coup against him, they would be outnumbered by Thaksin's supporters. I seem to remember people saying there wouldn't be a coup in 2014, as there were so many in the lower ranks of the army from the northeast who supported Thaksin. If there is a majority opposition winner in May, I truly doubt that he'll be accused or charged with anything. The most dangerous aspect will be that he and circle are still hanging around. Forced exile sounds nice, though. 1

I don't give a damn about Thaksin, I am very much opposed to coups against legitimately elected democratic governments.

Not as tough as it must be to be a supporter of illegal military coups. After all the TRT and their follow up parties have won every legal election since the year 2000, cluding 2004 where Thaksin and the TRT won legally an overall majority in parliament. The only way that they were removed, was once again by a military coup, and NOT by an election

MarcelV
Thaksin is NOT welcome in the southern border provinces of Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala and eastern Songkhla Province. We will never forget the Tak Bai Massacre, which happened under his watch and he did nothing to prevent it. Stay away, Mr. Thaksin! People better vote for the MFP or Mr. Wan Noor of Prachachart Party, which do value Muslim lives and the Malay culture of the deep south. Any other party is better than Thaksin or the military-aligned UNdemocrats. 1

But that applies only to the provinces you mention. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provinces_of_Thailand There are a total of 76 provinces of Thailand are part of the government of Thailand that is divided into 76 provinces (Thai: จังหวัด, RTGS: changwat, pronounced [t͡ɕāŋ.wàt̚]) proper and one special administrative area (Thai: เขตปกครองส่วนท้องถิ่นรูปแบบพิเศษ), representing the capital Bangkok.[3][4][5] They are the primary local government units and act as juristic persons. They are divided into amphoe (districts) which are further divided into tambon (sub districts), the next lower level of local government. Each province is led by a governor (ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัด phu wa ratchakan changwat), who is appointed by the central government. The last time I looked the voters choose the candidates they wish and then the party they wish in a province and it is a majority rule. If you want a national party to represent you, the Anutin and the BJT party are desperate for MPs and votes in the coming election.
