Siam Rath reported that a 44 year old man called Wirat was helping Bang Plee, Samut Prakan, police after the conclusion to a hostage drama last night.

 

At 6 am yesterday the police were informed that a man had taken five people hostage at knifepoint in a downstairs bedroom of a house.

 

Three were rescued in a charge as 30 local and special provincial police surrounded the property yesterday.

 

But the suspect continued to take his wife hostage.

A plan was hatched between the police and medics to drug drinks after the suspect called for refreshments.

 

But in the end after the suspect said he would kill his wife if the authorities tried to stop him again, they pounced successfully a second time.

 

This after an explosion was heard emanating from the house.

 

A local phu yai ban who had been one of the hostages said that Wirat was down on his luck after being sacked as a song thaew driver.

 

He was in debt so resorted to this mischief.
