Phuket – Two taxi drivers in Phuket are facing legal action after fighting, reportedly over who had jurisdiction over picking up customers at a hotel.

The Phuket Land Transport Office Chief Mr. Atcha Buajan told the Phuket Express on Thursday night (April 6th) that he received a viral video clip of two taxi drivers fighting on Patak Road in Karon. One of them was disappointed that the other picked up tourists in front of a hotel, which the upset driver felt was “his territory”.

A verbal argument ensued, in front of the terrified customers, which escalated to a physical brawl.

Take-away their licenses, ban them both for life from driving a taxi.

Stop this idiocy now.

You are right. But on the other hand who will enforce it?! Does anyone care if they have a licence at all? The same with entertainment venues and many other businesses.

If the hotel rank cab waits his turn why would, t he be pi$$ed off!

Excellent. Things like this are forcing the DLT's hand, forcing them to take action over legality and areas for taxis.

Two Phuket taxi drivers who got into a physical fight over customers have had their licences suspended for 180 days. The drivers, who have been named as Chayakorn Chaitisuk and Noppadon Changlek got into an altercation on Patak Road in Karon last Thursday. The altercation included the brandishing of a tyre spanner as a weapon.

It’s understood the argument started when one driver, working with an app-based ride hailing service, arrived to pick up customers at a hotel the other driver considered his “territory”. A verbal dispute ensued, which quickly escalated into violence – all in front of the terrified customers.

The Phuket Express reports that Atcha Buajan, chief of the Phuket Land Transport Office says he was sent video footage of the brawl, which has also gone viral on social media. He says one of the drivers was angry that the other one had showed up to collect customers in what he considered his “turf”.
