You obviously need a VERY hi-end machine. The OP does not.

My i5 NUC with 16GB RAM, 128 M2 and 1TB SSD does everything I need including fairly intensive music production. And looks a lot better than your fairground concoctions. IMO.

I think you mean Patman. All my rigs all sit in Lian-Li cases, apart from HTPC.

unpopular as in very few seeds or lesser known stuff
not everything has a big marketing budget
lots of great stuff goes under the radar for most people
dead mans shoes just for an example

And you need a new keyboard with a SHIFT/CAPS key.   555

He can use a PCIe HBA to add up to 8 HDD.

The biggest problem I find is finding a case to accept 8 drives here.

you can get PCIe cards to add upto 20 sata ports (see my hdd rack pic above, 2 cards)
but yes cases (and latest motherboards) are not so accomodating

FYI, phanteks currently have modular cases that can take 10 HDD
(or can add a 2nd itx motherboard)

I got a Fractal from Invade a few years back with room for 8 x 3.5 HDDs, plus room for 2 x SSDs behind the mobo, a 128 for the OS and a Samsung 2TB for data, also backed up onto One Drive. The HHDs are empty apart from one 1TB for Aomei Backupper.

That was a few years back, as you say. The best one I could find now is this http://i.nvade.it/cg5.

Just like the MoBo manufacturers generally don't include more than 4 SATA ports, the case manufacturers don't include more than 2-4 3.5" HDD slots, sometimes shared with 2.5" SSDs.

While I have to admit that you PC rigs are very esthetic and artsy, it's not my kind of auto-strata. I prefer closed cases to keep the ants and dust out, and tucked away out of sight. Maybe 40+ years on a raised floor among the mostly blue colored anonymous boxes reflects on my preferences.

I don't buy anything pre-built either.

i do still use cases, i have 3 rigs in cases which are not pretty at all, no lights nothing
but one misconception though is dust, you do not get dust build up with open air rigs
even if you did it can be quickly blown out easily
the 2 smaller rigs are pretty for a reason, they dont have to be pretty,

they can look like the very quiet fanless budget one

i use 2 x coolermaster MC500 cases
which i also add a 5 HDD rack inside for 15 drives total
but they are not available anymore
phanteks seem the only option currently

What cards have 10 sata ports?

I have a Dell PERC H310 in a box and a LSI 9240 in one server.

I didn’t see your server creation before, nice, I prefer to keep everything rack mounted,

Best cases IMO. I've seen plenty of reviews which claim the same.

Plenty to choose from on Invade, but WHICH ONE is the right one for me? Mine is mostly filled now with fresh (???) air.

If you look around, you'll find that most socket 1700 MoBo's have only 4 SATA ports. You'll have to go above mid range or go specialist boards to get 6 SATA or more. Comes with a price.

Irrelevant, as the board in the promo under discussion is socket AM4. AMD, not Intel. Moreover an AM4 ATX with 6 SATA ports will cost only  around B1200 more than the mATX at JIB.

The OP PSU is a Corsair MT850W. Corsair is a well known quality manufacturer. I use many components from them. 850 watt is sufficient to drive a fair size rig.

True. And I had noted it has headroom. I have a Corsair myself and it's been great.

Or on a recliner, with beer holders in the arms, in front of a 65 inch telly, with Dolby Atmos from a NUC hidden away somewhere.

Snacks and meds on the table beside the recliner in easy reach.

There is the old but fast CMR and the newer but mostly slower SMR technology. SMR has only comparable write speeds if not too many data are written in a short time.

Yeah, you check the specs before buying to make sure you're getting CMR. Extra step nowadays.

you can get NVME cards that have 5 sata ports
then you have PCIe cards that take 4 of those cards giving you 20 sata over X16

you can also get
20 SATA port X1 cards
obviously you are limited by 1 lane but for what they are used for this is usually fine
but do be warned these cards don't play nice with others, 1 card is usually fine

also have another X16 that has 20/24 ports if you can find them

The price on these cards have rocketed lately
you can hunt or wait and find them cheaper
Lazada/shopee probably not the best places to look TBH

Why would you need 24/7 torrenting. What are you downloading?

Some old torrents have almost no seeders.  But, I still want to get the material so I have a Pi running 24X7.  That way I don't miss any short term seeder that can provide content.  Sometimes that type of seeder is also very slow.  My Ozark Mountain Daredevils torrent has been running a few months.  Activity is rare but progress is being made.

The Pi is a very low power system so my leccy bill remains tolerable.

You can't be that desperate to watch whatever you were downloading. 555

There are 7 entries on P Bay

Thank you.... but only 1 is for the "It'll Shine When it Shines" album.  I like pretty much like every track on that one.

Took me a few seconds to find a source for that one… and their whole discography from ‘73 onwards.
Take a look at…
