Found it on Mr Bingle, thanks. 40 degrees and 50% humidity = 55 degrees heat index.

  • They do significant damage for Thailand tourism with these alarmist "heat index" numbers. In the western media it simply appears as headlines like "Heat wave in Thailand, temperatures over 50 degree

  • I wonder how the covid alarmistst will react when more people die from heatsroke than covid. Let's face more people have died on the roads today than from covid. Not sure about covid deaths today. Pos

Well......if one can't deal with tropical heat [tourists/residents] than you shouldn't hang out in torrid zones.

Need the heat index to be more sensational.....54 Degree Celsius sells better than it is this year as hot as every other year at this time of the year at humid 40 degree.

The Heat Index was developed to better represent the potential threat to life that the weather can pose. Heat Index combines heat and relative humidity into a number that conveys how easy or hard it will be to shed the heat our bodies generate by our metabolisms. If we can't shed the hear, then heat stroke becomes a possibility. How quickly can it kill? that depends upon health and conditioning to heat of the individual, but 6 hours in such conditions will kill even young people of excellent health.
There is a related "Misery" Index that also factors in wind speed for the ability of moving air to assist in chilling the body. It is far harder to compute, but in broad terms are regularly mapped from data collected by satellite. Most places in Thailand only get into the amber color zone for an hour or 2 per day. It is worse in India near Pakistan, just before the monsoons fully take over the season there, Here is regional map from April 19th.

Here is a Heat Index table , with the relative humidity of the moment on the horizontal axis, temperature on the vertical, and the Heat Index as the intersection of the two.

Had 50 degrees with 40% humidity the other week. That's 81C heat index...

What mathematical formula dis you use to calculate your heat index?

It is how the heath feels like. Maybe temperature 40 degree is = heath index 50. An example. Seems to be a new way of talking about how warm it is.

Let's just stick to actual air temp. vs 'feels like' please....

Do we have to refer to the Heat Index as 'they' also ?
