BANGKOK, April 28 (TNA) – In the first quarter of 2023, the Thai economy continued to improve from the previous quarter, mainly driven by improvement in both foreign and Thai tourists which bolstered services and private consumption, according to the Bank of Thailand (BoT).

The value of merchandise export increased in line with manufacturing production and private investment. Public expenditure also expanded from the previous year from both current and capital expenditures, while investment expenditures of state-owned enterprises contracted from the same period last year.

Absolutely pointless drivel, as the article doesn't name any numbers for this 'improvement'.

This is the BOT MPF projections as of 28 March (delivered 12 April), projections mind you, not actuals. The actuals are due on 10 May.

Q2 and Q3 will be interesting, going into the post election fiasco and the low tourist season.

So many posters here long to see Thailand fail, but it never does. Why all this schadenfreude? Is it because people think that an economic crash will make the prices of bargirls go down?

I've wondered about this for many years, I think there are several answers, depending on which group the poster belongs to.

Long tenure older guys who have been here for a long time are angry that they used to get a lot of Baht for their money and today they only get half as much. They're annoyed they lost that bet, didn't join up the dots twenty years ago and need somebody to blame it on, corruption, manipulation, incompetence are all suitable candidates.

Shorter tenure younger guys, don't equate visually the things they see to an ever strengthening economy. A low hanging mish mash of electrical cables, uneven sidewalks, masses of impoverished rural poor, those things aren't components of a strong economy. There must be another answer, corruption, manipulation, incompetence possibly, they're fiddling the books and the currency!

To both those groups, any economic good news is always going to be met with suspicion, scepticism and derision. Only a super weak Baht will make both groups happy but that just aint going to happen, oh well.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there.

Could be worse......

They surely wouldn't be any better off in their respective home countries, where there is whoa-a-plenty and life can be terribly unpleasant and largely unaffordable.

That's a fact. Most of them are sad cases, so whinging is all they do.

A couple of off-topic troll posts (and replies) have been removed.
