Hello,

I'm a Canadian currently on an education visa here in Thailand. During my 2 years here studying, i met and married an air-hostess. My edu.visa will expire late Sept. and would like to change my visa to a mult. non-imm O. My wife makes well above the 40 000baht prerequisite, and we have all the doc. needed. All i'm concerned about is getting the multi-entry. Due to my class schedule, i'll only have a few days for the process, so that leaves out Canada. As i now fly on the airline employee discount, flying anywhere on this side of the world is fine.

Where should i go? Where are the best places to go for multiple entry visa?

Am i too concerned about getting the multi-entry visa? What are the differences between the 2 choices of visas?

I'd love to go back to Laos, but hear it rare to get that kind of visa.

Your advice would be appreciated.

You’re not saying, but I assume your wife is a Thai national. You don’t really need to leave Thailand and get a non-O visa. Just go to your local Immigration office and apply for an annual extension based on living with your Thai wife. You can do this even though you entered Thailand with a non-Ed visa.

Take your wife to Immigration with her ID, House registration, marriage papers and her income evidence over the last few months, together with your passport and apply for a change of visa category, and an extension. It shouldn't be too difficult. Good luck.

I asked a similar question recently about the income certification and whether it was "money going into the bank" that was important or whether it was actualy tax paid which was the key. Also, how long a history would need to be provided ?

Specifically, what happens with someone like my better half who has her own business but like many Thai businesses, does not declare full accounts etc. How would someone actually assess her "real" income ?

And as we have said it is tax payments that are required. So if she is not paying the tax on 40k per month income it will not qualify for your extension of stay.

It is proof that tax has been paid on an income of 40k - not that you pay 40k tax per month or that you have a bank account that shows 40k per month deposits.
