Double-entry Tourist Visa Running Out (us Citizen)

Featured Replies

My tourist visa expires in a couple of weeks and I was wondering what the best way was to get another one.

I know I must leave the country, but is there a border town where the Thai consulate is friendly when issuing tourist visas? I'm looking to come right back into Thailand when my visa expires. Should I, instead, wait a couple of days?

I already have 2 in my passport (not back-to-back, however). What are people's experience with this?

Any help that could be offered would be much appreciated!

Just take the train down south to Sungaikolok. The consulate is in Kota Bahru, Malaysia (taxi ride from Sungai Kolok border post).

Or train to Nong Khai, and then to the Thai Consulate in Vientiane, Laos,

Where are you in Thailand.

can get it in penang, malaysia, no need to wait before going back

if staying near bangkok get to penang with air asia, flights during the week are only 500 baht plus fees

Thanks for the info.

Forgot to mention, I'm in Chiang Mai. Laos would be an easy trip. Just want to be sure no one gives me a hard time (or refuse me entry, possibly).

Thanks

Ok, use the search button at the top of the page and search for:

Vientiane

Nongkhai

and you will find all info.

I've been going to Vientiane for several years. My experience is Vientiane does not offer double entry tourist visas. I ask and they say single only without even looking at the passport. They do seem to allow perpetual back to back, but single entry only.

Thanks for the info!

Hope one day Thailand makes it easier for foreigners... (wishful thinking!)

Thailand is one of the easiest countries for residence or immigration related things. I hold permanent residence in both the US and Canada and i can tell you from my own experience, Thailand is a dream when it comes to these things ...or the US and Canada are nightmares, your choice.

I wonder how easy it'd be for a Thai to visit your country, let alone become a continual visitor. It would not happen ... would it. Put a modicum of reality into your thoughts before criticising Thailand.

I wasn't necessarily comparing Thailand with the US, or any other country.

I was thinking more of the "leaving" part, where one must physically leave the country every 90 days or so, even if you have a 1-year visa or are married to a Thai (I believe). This is the part that I hope to see improved one day.

There is little criticism in wishful thinking. Who would want it more difficult a process?

If you have legal reason to remain in Thailand you can do so. It is called extension of stay. You apply at immigration inside Thailand after arriving on a valid visa.

My wife has a 10 year visa to the USA but she can not stay longer than 6 months (or less). Should she be able to stay 10 years? :o

Applying logic doesn't always work Lop. That western countries are as tough as nails matters not. These awful Asians are conspiring to make it just too difficult for poor little me.

A tourist is a tourist... not supposed to be tourist ad infinitum.

But for foreign workers it would be much easier. They work less hours than in thailand, would have paid hollidays and if married to a country native would obtain nationality without need to leave country every x months. Forgot to say that no need to leave country to do visa runs.

ohh and could have bank account, buy land, etc.

It still ain't easy for a Thai to enter a western country and achieve all that you suggest.

It can be a very hard and daunting task for most Thai people to enter any country let alone leave Thailand... :o

That is so true Tony. It takes a B I G lot of Thai baht to visit any western country It makes it nigh on impossible for an ordinary Thai to travel too far.
