BANGKOK: -- On the evening of May 11, a swift and collaborative effort between Lieutenant Colonel Thotsaphon Amphai-Phiphattanakun, the commander of Samranrat Police Station, his squad of officers, and alert local citizens led to the swift apprehension of Mr. Thaksin Chatiketu, a 23-year-old resident of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.

Known locally as Jojo, he was nabbed shortly after he smashed a display case with a hammer at a renowned gun shop in the Burapha neighborhood of Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok. His attempted escape was cut short within a kilometer of the crime scene on Burapha Road.

The haul of evidence seized from the suspect included a 9mm Sig Sauer model P938 pistol, a cartridge, a bag of bullets, and the hammer used in the crime, reported Siam Rath.

Witnesses and vigilant locals recounted the events leading up to the arrest. Prior to the incident, the suspect, who appeared to be in a visibly disturbed state, was noticed loitering suspiciously near the gun shop.

He then unexpectedly wielded a hammer, shattered the display case, and seized a pistol before making a futile attempt to escape. The shop owner, along with watchful local citizens who had been monitoring his suspicious behavior, quickly alerted the police and assisted in cornering and capturing the would-be thief.

Despite his incoherent speech during the arrest, Mr. Thaksin confessed to the charges. Following the arrest, the officers transferred him to the investigative team at Samranrat Police Station for further processing of the theft and property damage charges.

In an attempt to shed more light on the case, authorities are now liaising with the suspect's family to ascertain if he has a history of mental health disorders or substance abuse.
