BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Gen Chan-o-cha has presided over a handover ceremony for humanitarian aid intended for people in Myanmar impacted by Cyclone Mocha.

The event at Government House was attended by Myanmar’s ambassador to Thailand, U Chit Swe, together with Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri.

During the ceremony, Gen Prayut expressed deep sympathy on behalf of the Thai government and people for those affected by Cyclone Mocha. He also conveyed his heartfelt wishes for a rapid recovery of affected individuals and communities, as they navigate the challenging circumstances they currently face.

Additionally, the Thai government has sent officials to work at the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management, showcasing their commitment to providing assistance and support to the affected areas.

In response, Ambassador U Chit Swe expressed his gratitude for the assistance, while acknowledging the impact of Cyclone Mocha on the lives and property of the affected population. He noted, however, that despite the cyclone being more severe than Cyclone Nargis in 2008, its impact was somewhat mitigated by the valuable experience gained from the previous disaster.

The ambassador added that efforts to restore the 18 townships most devastated by the cyclone are now underway.

and how much of it will actually reach the people

sounds more like a payment for support to your general mates, as it cannot be accounted for once handed over

Prayuth should not be allowed to do this with tax payer money
