Pita’s election as PM and political certainty would be a green light for new jobs and investment

Featured Replies

Pheu Thai nominee for PM, Srettha Thavisin, was speaking on Wednesday at an investors conference in Bangkok at which he insisted on looking at the current political situation in a positive light, saying that its resolution in the form of political certainty and a government led by Move Forward’s Pita Limjaroenrat would be a green light for a return of inward financial investment and new jobs created by foreign firms.

Business tycoon turned politician, Srettha Thavisin, briefed investors in Bangkok about the current political situation as capital and investment flow out of the kingdom due to rising political uncertainty as the May 14th General Election result becomes embroiled in controversy due to the extremely onerous nature and complexity of the country’s electoral system.

Pheu Thai Party Prime Ministerial nominee, Srettha Thavisin, this week tried to sound positive about the current anxiety sweeping the business sector over the murky political situation and growing doubts about the May 14th General Election result. Mr Srettha said he was confident that if a government led by Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat is installed in August, it would lead to a return of investment and capital to Thailand as money continues to flow out of the kingdom.

Key Pheu Thai Party leader Srettha Thavisin, a former property tycoon and business empire builder, on Wednesday, told reporters that he was aware of international business enterprises that would like to move plants and production to Thailand but are put off, for now, by the delay, in the aftermath of the May 14th General Election, in clarity emerging as to the nature and substance of Thailand’s next government which is expected to be elected by parliament in August.

Jobs for the "little people" who don't matter, and investment which won't go to the "right people".

No they are scared from the communist talks from Pita and what laws may result from it.

Talks about tax increases and higher electric costs (CO2 and green things) scares away producer.

and higher minimum labor costs

No matter if these things are the right thing to do or not. Investors want cheap energy, cheap labor and no taxes and no regulations and stability.

If it is democratic or a dictatorship is irrelevant...it must be cheap

They are talking about foreign investors.....not me talking about it.

Lot of investments mean automatic rising salaries, better education, better standards in the long term....see China 20 years ago and now...even on pollution China is now cleaner than India.

Cheap energy can be clean....nuclear power plants (Prayuth wanted to build but choose the most stupid place and caved in when there was critic-->weak leader) cutting the supid regulations on private solar panels would create lots of cheap energy. But also modern coal plants are now clean...(not advocating for them, but they are cheap and clean if someone bother to build them). Cheap labor at full employment will very fast lead to increased salaries....over many years China had seen +10% salaries every year. But that works only at labor shortages (not when you let in Myanmar and Cambodian worker.....like Prayuth did) more expensive labor than leads to the use of more efficient tools and better training.

If there is good economic there will be stability as people are happy and busy.

All socialist ideas lead to exactly the opposite. Minimum salaries actually keeps it all stagnant, but inflation high.

With low salaries you also need to keep prices low, which means lowering taxes and keep bureaucracy---> Prayut did the opposite and Pita want to make the bad politics even worse. Cut spending and reduce taxes for the poor, better for everyone.

I think stormy might be mild Thinking more tsunami or Hurricane.

First, if the MFP gets denied they are going to be screaming.  I also have trouble thinking that the senate will vote in a Thaksin as PM.

So imagine if those 2 organizations' backers get together even if it is in opposite areas of BKK or cities how much trouble that will raise.

IMO, the Powers that Be will NEVER allow Pita to form a government/assume the PM role UNLESS he swears an oath to NOT pursue any reforms, and promises to stick to Prayuth's 20 year plan.

Prayuth is flexing today. And if the dirt/law attacks don't work he will be proclaiming that "There will not be a coup" soon.

never allow....if Pita would have played clean, no one could have blocked him. Every party tries to smear the other, that is normal. Would Prayuth have iTV shares MF would be the loudest complaining about it. No one cares what he swears.....he would swear everything and have it forgotten the next day like every politician in every country.

#BREAKING:

After today’s ratification of all 500 MPs-elect, the new parliament must convene within two weeks to elect a new House speaker (and their deputies), who then sets the date for joint-assembly vote on the new Prime Minister.

Regarding the complaints against 71 MPs-elect, the @EctThailand

explains that they can’t process those within the 60-day-limit it needs to ratify all results. So, they approve all MPs first and can still investigate all complaints against them within a year after that.

Does not matter if Pita played clean or not, do you think Pita and MF are going to be allowed to form a goverment ???

This was all designed and written into the Junta constitution; the Military/Establishment side in Thai politics knows that they are unable to win a fair or fair-ish election, so they added poison pills. Delay, Delay carry on Payut.

The EC was appointed by the Junta and will always find something to question based on their "interpretation" of the rules. Moreover, they'll take their sweet time in doing so against an opposition candidate as every day after the election goes by, the sense of momentum of the winning, Pro-Democracy side wanes just a little. Finally, after they have done their best to blunt a sense of momentum, they'll refer the case to the NACC "out of an abundance of caution" so that the new PM will be referred to as the "under investigation (insert name)".

Next is the NACC. The NACC will conduct a "fair and complete" investigation and take their sweet time about it in order to continue the policy of blunting momentum and casting aspersions on the Pro-Democracy side. Hmm... isn't Prawit's former aide still Head of the NACC?

After the NACC, the Constitution Court will weigh in. Remember them? The ones who decided that an army regulation superseded the Constitution so that Prayut could live rent-free on an army base?

The Senate. Since you all know about the Junta-appointed Senate, I won't waste my time.

The process is clear as day.

"Concerns" will be raised. Bull<deleted> rules and regulations will be cited. "Doubts" will be cast. "Questions" will be asked.

In August , approximately four months after the election, when the momentum from the election has worn off and the leading candidate or candidates from the opposition side have been tarnished in the name of "making sure everything is correct", then they will decide if they want the tarnished candidate or they decide that "more investigations" are needed to "ensure fairness" and muddy it up further.

This is all by design and was planned a few years ago.

So they should allow to let him go away with breaking the law....because what?
Of course if he would not brake the law they can not block him. Senate if he does not get crazy ideas like 112, disbanding the senate, making a new constitution, war mongering against Myanmar etc the Senate would be happy to vote for him. If he get removed the Senate will be happy to vote for a moderate person from PTP. Which will proof that it is not rigged.

Thanks for the breaking news. The pressure by the people has paid off. This is a significant first step towards a civilian government after a decade of military junta faux democratic rule. With this batch of certified MPs, the pro democratic coalition parties will form the Parliament majority. All the rumour of PTP snitching out of the coalition and join the junta are baseless.

This "sounds" like good news, but it isn't.

They'll just cut, cut, cut for a year. This will ham-string any government as this axe will be hovering above their heads. Then MPs will be picked off, and entire parties dissolved. Party leaders will go to prison, or be forced to leave the country.

< Assuming Pita can coax ~ 45 Senators to vote for him. I don't think any Senators, other than the 18 who've said to be backing him, will vote for him unless he SWEARS not to pursue "reforms" of the Institution. >

It will be very, very ugly.

A majority of the MPs facing possible red or yellow cards are in the military backed parties.

MF have only 7 MPs under investigation.

If MF is dissolved, the MPs will have 60 days to find a new party. I expect one is already prepared as MF was to accept FF MPs.

Dissolving the party or not voting for Pita will only increase support for MF

I think the old order know the jig is up so they'll use PT to neuter any radical ideas proposed by MF

Look at the situation from the old guard's point of view. Numbers wise ( MPs), it's hopeless, the military backed parties are even facing more investigations regarding their MPs' election than MF and PT!

So, what to do, subtly? lol.

Work on PT.

' You're feeling sore, right? You lost to those young whippersnappers who want to destroy Thailand as we know it, right?

Here's the deal, we vote for Settha as PM, the big boss can come back provides he behaves himself, and PT, along with our boys, vote down any ' troubling' legislation proposed by the upstarts.

What do you say?'

Thaksin Shinawatra and Prawit Wongsuwan have been plotting for two years, aiming to strike a deal in which Pheu Thai would support Prawit to be the next prime minister, and in return Prawit would ensure Thaksin can come home safely without facing any jail time.
