Thai netizens criticised an American YouTuber, Nathan Bartling, popularly known among Thai people as My Mate Nate, after he hired 50 Thai police officers to participate in a game featured in one of his new videos.

On June 17, Bartling, shared a video of a hide-and-seek game between his team and Thai police officers on his Facebook page and Youtube Channel. In the video, Bartling, shouted…

“I hired 50 police officers to hunt for me and my team members in the abandoned shopping mall!”

After he finished his introduction, Bartling explain the rules of the game. His team had a mere 10 minutes to find hiding spots throughout the entire building while the police officers had one hour to search for them.

Each of Bartling’s team members hid in different ways. One member disguised himself as a bush, one buried himself underground, one wore an authority’s uniform, and another one hid in the wooden box. Bartling chose to hide on the rooftop.

At the end of the game, the police managed to find only three members out of seven. Bartling invited the officers to join his game again, this time with 100 officers and police dogs. However, the release of the next episode of the series remains uncertain due to the criticism received from Thai netizens.

Some asked whether the police joined the game during their duty or not. Others argued that the officers should remain at their police stations, available for any emergency situations. Many condemned Bartling and the police for their recklessness.

Sometimes I wonder why anybody cares what Nathan Bartling does on YouTube. But maybe I am just getting too old for this s#$@.

  • This idiot again. I suspected it from the headline before reading the post.

Most of these fool You Tubers are disgusting making money by exploiting Thais, especially Thai females.  They should all be shut down for good.

I knew it was Nate just reading the headline!

He's very annoying to us old farts, myself included!

But the Thai millennials swarm his posts, which is a net positive for ALL farangs image in Thailand, and he's made himself a very wealthy young man with a hi-so missus.

It could be worse, he could be a stinky drunk vandalizing KSR begpacker.

Do you mean Nate?  Or the participating police?

I mean, regarding the latter, don't they have anything else better to be doing???

well the stupid supporters aren't much better,   some folks really need to get a life,   who in their right mind would follow this type of garbage on YT.    IQ ...  of 1  i guess.     haha

Seems like he never learns. There was the outcry about him crushing coins with the monarch's face on them, and wasn't he the one that took the p*** out of Thais when they didn't understand what he was saying?

Got to keep those viewing figures up.

Not surprised to see the RTP prostitute themselves for this throbber.

Interesting point.  Obviously they're using the guy's nationality, but it does leave it quite vague as to who his audience is.  I suppose it's just referred to as "YouTube", so we don't hear where the viewers are.

If he was on Thai TV, I guess it would be "American star of Thai TV".  Certainly, "American TV star" would leave you thinking that it was American TV.

Possibly "American YouTuber who produces content in Thailand and has a predominantly Thai audience..." would clear it up, but reporting can be pretty lazy.

The internet certainly hasn't done much to improve the quality (or accuracy) of the written word.

Money , money , money. agree with the poster above. Better than the walking and talking heads. I watched it and liked it. I actually understood most of the language. Amazing how much you pick up living in Thailand for 10 years.  He speaks Thai. I bet born in Thailand or has lived there for many years.

If ever there was a thread which draws out the 'boomers' like an old Thai Auntie to an eat all you want seafood buffet is going to be this one...

Guys are jealous that he has more money?... Guys don't like that he's getting attention?...

If you don't like his stuff, don't read it... its really not that difficult... I don't pay any attention to the Kardashian stuff and neither do I to this guy... But the hate on here seems somewhat unhinged...

All I can say is 'not my cup of tea, but if he's making plenty of money, good on him'.....

AND... as for those criticising Policemen for 'moonlighting'.... Well... most doormen in Thailand are also Police officers... I've met plenty of Police officers who are taxi drivers, delivery riders etc...  So what's wrong with these guys making extra money when its ok for everyone else (when not otherwise on duty of course) ???

Exactly.....     this thread is a pure lightening rod for the monging misers who are still dextrously agile enough to flit from one screen to another and remember they now have to act annoyed on this thread while justifying that they can still pleasure a 25 year in another !!!... :neus:....   they may consider it brain exercise... Keep the grey matter working, the brain is a muscle and all that !!! :giggle:

I am older than dirt, but I kinda liked it. Lol... Cut us old guys some slack. Although I don't live in Thailand any longer. Fun to follow.

Plenty of slack going your way...  and fair enough, its the miserable farts of all ages who a couple of us posters are calling out for their inability to control their 'inner Karen' and blurt their halfwitted musings across these pages instead of simply moving on past something they claim doesn't interest them or they don't like...

In this example... I think the guy might too much of an attention seeker, but, he's earning an estimated $1.2million (yes, 1.2 Million US dollars) per year....  So I say, good on him - its seems others just can't see that.

Mr Beast was mentioned earlier on in this thread and I think the same...  But, good on him too.

None of it is 'my cup of tea'...  but if they're making a 'clean' living, I have more respect form them than I do half of the Politicians and Bankers !!!....    (just to add some perspective !).
