On June 21, 2023, an elderly man dressed similarly to a Buddhist monk, around 70 years of age, was found drunk and disoriented outside Itthapajayataram Temple in Phu Khae, Chaloem Phra Kiat district, Saraburi province.

Bystanders reported the man, who was heavily intoxicated and making incoherent statements, to local police for investigation, reported Siam Rath.

On arrival, the police attempted to converse with the individual, however due to his level of intoxication, communication proved challenging. After consultation with temple monks, it was revealed that the man, identified as Surachet Nasomjai, 67 years old, had previously been ordained at the temple, but had been long absent.

Surachet was transported by police to Khao Phrom Sawan temple in the same district for sobering up. However, no evidence of his ordination as a monk was found.

Surachet, still intoxicated and unable to communicate clearly, was unable to provide further information about his origins or current status.

The village headman, Mr. Banlakorn Netsawang, who also assisted in the case, confirmed that Surachet had no ordination certification. As Surachet remained incoherent, attempts to contact his family for pick-up have been initiated.
