In a tragic event that unfolded last Friday at a school in Bangkok, an 18 year old student lost his life due to a fire extinguisher explosion during a fire drill activity for school safety. In the wake of the tragedy, financial support was extended to the victim’s family by the Education Ministry.

During a meeting yesterday, Atthapol Sangkhawasi, the permanent secretary for education, along with Niyom Phaisopha, director-general of Bangkok Secondary Educational Service Area Office 1, and Theprit Yodsai, the school’s director, offered financial assistance to the bereaved family. The financial aid provided to the family of the deceased boy, identified as Khumthong “Benz” Premmanee, totalled 235,000 baht.

In accordance with their commitment to school safety, a sum of 200,000 baht as life insurance was provided through the school, combined with an additional 30,000 baht from the Education Ministry following the student’s demise. A further amount of 5,000 baht was given to his family members by the permanent secretary’s office, reported Bangkok Post.

Additionally, in an effort to support school safety, the ministry provided financial aid of 5,000 baht each to the families of the injured pupils. A team of psychiatrists is due to be invited to the school, aiming to offer support and assistance when the institution reopens.

Sickening to see how little they value a child's life! 100% the schools fault and the authorities give 35,000 baht because its the school's insurance that's paying 200,000baht (what a tiny amount to insure your students). The compensation should be in the millions of baht ie 40,000,000 as a starting point.

No, the Ministry absolutely did not aid with 235,000 baht!  Wrong.  200,000 was woefully inadequate, penny-inching cheap insurance.   Try a paltry 35,000 baht as the correct figure the Ministry coughed up.  Disgusting!  Some 'aid'--and let's not even mention the tiny 5,000 baht for the injured students.  Hope the families all sue, as they should.

This is a classic case simply of ' Words fail me! ' as to the pittance they have handed over to this poor kids family and all the other kids families who were injured.

This shows the sheer contempt they have for the average family in this country.

The boys life and dreams are gone, his family and their hopes for his future with career etc all gone!

And the monetary value placed on him is 235,000 baht.
