Blah, Blah, Blah. All of you who can't recognize the fact that the traveler in question showed no personal accountability by not knowing before traveling what are the requirements of the country he was visiting are nothing more than "blame it on someone else" or "the rules don't apply to me" or "point to something else to deflect the responsibility" kind of people.

When you are traveling to a different country you are their guest and you should know beforehand the major requirements of entering, getting along and exiting the country. Anything less and you are a crying, snibbling, lazy, lack of personal accountability person who should stay home and stop expecting others to compensate for your shortcomings.

The traveler was lucky to get into Thailand and the Immigration officials should be commended for their compassion by making it possible for him to enter. If the traveler had had everything in order, there wouldn't have been a problem and this thread would be non-existent.

Thank you for your input Martian. I'm sure when you come here from your planet, you must have everything in order. After all, it is a long trip home.

I like China's recent response to bribery. Perhaps if Thailand started to execute it's public officials for accepting bribes then it might send a strong message to those engaged in this practice and curb it somewhat.

When we came here I had to pay for the stamp on the dog import-documents and the official wanted thai bath. But there was no problem going out to the ATM, through the customs check and smailingly saying I would be back, getting the money, then _backwards_ through the exit-gate and through the customs check...

But then again, I'm not chinese...

I have filled up two passports in the last 4 years; nobody has ever asked how much money I had on me. I assumed money in the bank and a couple of pieces of plastic would be sufficient. I always thought they were more worried that you were bringing too much money in, which is the only issue you see raised on customs forms.

I myself have never much money on me. Maybe 20 or 50 euro that's it, thus I would never meet the requirements, but of course I was never asked to show that proof (not at the airport, and not at even the most remote border crossings).

Last time I left, I used the smoking rooms on level 2, (went down two levels from 4 departures), now I'm pretty sure I have seen ATM's on that level, so if I can get from level 4 to level 2, just to have a smoke, an arriving passenger can do the reverse, just to withdraw money from an ATM.

According to the official webiste there are ATM's on international arrivals section on level 2 as well. But I haven't seen these myself.

Customs is not Immigration. This traveler had not yet obtained a visa to enter Immigration queue mush less cleared it. He was between plane and passport control trying to buy his visa. Just as some Consulates will sometimes check money/tickets prior to issue of a visa this office can also check. Unfortunately the traveler was short. No mention was made if he had credit cards or his only option was an ATM card so we can not speculate on if that might have helped.

Yes, farang prince, I normally have everything in order. I take responsibility for myself and accept the consequences of my actions or lack there of without whining and crying that it is someone else's fault.

That was the point.
