bignok Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Any word on expected completion date? Great idea btw https://hiscs.gr/new-doubling-track-denchai-chiang-rai-chiang-klong-in-thailand/ 1
marin Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 They are saying 2028 but with double tracks and many tunnels it wont be. 2032 has a nice ring to it. Cant link the article I found but its the Post from two and a half years ago. Very little progress since then, which is a pity as it is a great idea. 1
my friend I Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 AFAIK the priority is completing the southern and north east lines so could be some time Years.
sabaiguy Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 Just east of Thoeng there is a big bridge construction over the 1021 hwy going towards Chiang Kham. Locals told me it was for the new railway. Surprised because I didn't realize that there that much work already being done. Makes sense as crossings (elevated and at-grade) are more costly and time consuming than just laying rails. 1
FarangRimPing Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 A few months back we were in Dong Mahawan and saw that Google maps showed a new railway station, so we drove to see it. There was nothing there and we asked a local vendor about it. He then pointed out many buildings that were being torn down or had already been torn down. He said that the government pays people to tear down their houses in the path of the railway, and then gives them another, larger amount, when the tearing down is complete. So it is happening and I expect that the process will be accelerating. 1

Pay market value to the private owner. Of course. In Thailand, quite often certain folks get paid more than market value of the property. Other folks get paid less than market. Wht I found interesting was that the owners were responsible for clearing the lot themselves. They didn't get the final payment until the land was cleared. I assume that if they didn;t clear it, the government would do it and then the total payment would be lower. Perhaps they would only get the small initial payment.

A few years ago when the the new western bypass hwy (131) was under construction near our house a portion of the road was fully graded and appeared ready for paving but all work was stopped right in front of a house. Very interesting sight. Was thinking the homeowner probably wasn't happy with the gov'ts offer and was holding out. Next trip house was gone and hwy completed. Don't know who won that standoff. Probably Gov't as usual. But maybe homeowner got more than Gov't originally offered.
Popular Post Manassas Posted August 3, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 3, 2023 Cutting a pretty substantial tunnel through the mountain out by me. 3
Popular Post Manassas Posted August 8, 2023 Popular Post Posted August 8, 2023 We have a little restaurant on the 1098 by that mountain where they are building the tunnel. Business has been way down since covid. But now we're getting the railroad construction workers for lunch, dinner and after-dinner beer drinking. ???? Helps the restaurant quite a bit. 3 2
McGregor21 Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 Any map showing where all the stations will be located?..I have looked online for info but other than the press releases telling you costs:) how long the tunnels are etc can't see much detailed info.
motdaeng Posted July 24, 2024 Posted July 24, 2024 i'm not sure this link is accurate and / or up to date ... https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1REMriQY0BxNPmksruPXyT867ewA&ll=19.901368506109566%2C99.90353913121696&z=13
Rotweiler Posted July 25, 2024 Posted July 25, 2024 May be accurate. May be up to date. But it is NOT accessible (which kind of defeats the purpose).

Rotweiler Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 It ONLY works if you disable tracker-blocking on your computer/mobile. Gives you a really good display of what Google is doing to your computer (and to you!).

Agree. I'm as incognito as possible ... BUT ... If you've ever given your data to any agency (govt/private) vendor, bank, hospital, phone company (why everyone asks for ph#) ... any one of those, you can rest assured, anyone & everyone has that info also, already. Don't believe any site or whatever, that tells you differently. 1
