Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said Tuesday that it will take 3-4 days to clear the Luang Phaeng Road in Lat Krabang of the collapsed segment of an overpass, because each piece of the structure weighs between 30 and 40 tonnes.

Chorakhe Noi police have closed the in-bound Luang Phaeng Road to all traffic, from Lotus modern trade store to the road heading towards the police station, as of 5am Tuesday morning and have advised commuters and motorists to use other routes.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau have suggested the following alternative routes: Chalong Krung Road, the road running parallel to the Bangkok-Chon Buri motorway, in-bound Luang Phaeng Road, except the section in front of Lotus store, Yothathikan and Lat Krabang roads. Traffic police have been deployed to direct traffic.

Overpass Collapse Kills 2 in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang

BANGKOK (NNT) - Tragedy struck on Monday evening (10 July) in Lat Krabang district when a segment of an overpass under construction collapsed, claiming the lives of at least two people and leaving 13 others injured.

The incident occurred during ongoing construction of the Onnuch-Lat Krabang elevated road project, which was slated for completion next year.

As news of the collapse spread, Chatchaya Kamjan, a local official from Lat Krabang district, confirmed that one person - an engineer overseeing the construction - was killed when the segment gave way. The National Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team later discovered a second victim.

The immediate aftermath of the collapse prompted authorities to close off all traffic leading to the accident site, while urging commuters to seek alternative routes. The electricity supply in the area was temporarily cut off, with restoration expected by midnight.

Emergency response teams said five individuals were transported to Jularat Hospital, while eight others were taken to Lat Krabang Hospital for further treatment.

The project, contracted by Bangkok Metropolitan, had enlisted the joint efforts of Tharawan Construction Ltd and Napa Construction Co, Ltd. The collapse has raised concerns about construction safety and has sparked an investigation to determine the cause of the fatal incident.

Why are the Police doing the incident investigation and not qualified and experienced HSE accident investigators?

Perhaps because it happed in Thailand and not the UK?

May have been a UK contractor though, C & N does a good bit here.

So the Thai Police are qualified incident investigators? ????

I'm dubious that they hold recognised qualifications such as Kelvin Topset etc.

As they evidently cannot deduce the causes of road traffic accidents, I very much doubt they are competent to handle something of this magnitude.

My opinion only. Happy to be proved wrong.

Why indeed, when false rumour and speculation makes the xenophobe that much happier.

more like following the path of my past experiences. and my experiences in building and oversight here leave much to be desired to say the least. but go ahead and champion the cause, hope you will be pleasantly surprised

Pay for cheap labour this will happen. Burmese will be blamed for shoddy workmanship.

Sounds like you're blaming the Burmese.
