Thai Senator to sue cyberbullies after Prime minister bid fallout

In the face of escalating online threats against him and his kin, Senator Somchai Sawaengkan has announced he is preparing litigation against the cyber-bullies responsible. The threats transpired after the failed bid of Pita Limjaroenrat, head of the Move Forward Party (MFP), for the position of Prime Minister.

Yesterday, Somchai revealed that he, alongside other senators, is in the process of collating evidence required to take legal action against these figurative internet trolls.

They believe that these individuals launched threats against the senators and their family members following a joint meeting which held a vote for the new Prime Minister on Thursday.

Out of all the votes cast, only 13 senators supported the motion, whilst a majority of 159 chose to abstain, and a smaller grouping of 34 voted against it.

In the course of the Parliament’s debate preceding the vote, Senator Somchai stated that he would not bestow his support on Pita Limjaroenrat for the coveted position.

Somchai noted that ever since this day, a significant number of MFP supporters have resorted to posting malicious messages aimed at him and his family, with even his son’s Instagram account becoming a target.

Cyber bullies?  Does he mean the folks who as business owners posted that the Senators and there families were no longer welcome in there establishments, or the fact that folks are blaming them for a delayed government and the protests?  When will these guys learn to live with the fallout they created.  The laws here which they pander to are disenfranchising Thailand's ability to rise to the top like cream on milk.

Someone's maths don't add up.  13 + 159 + 34 = 250 ?

Without question, not the exact same thing. But I had to recall that in my country, hand picked  Senators were selected by the state legislatures before the passing of a Constitutional Amendment making Senators (2 from each state) elected by the citizens.

Oh diddums . Better get used to it.

One good thing did come out of it though. Somchai's son will take some time off from his social media accounts to wonder why so many people seem to hate his father.

44 never bothered showing up even.

Pass legislation to get weak minded operatives like Facebook and instagram to comply and hand over the ip address. Though I don’t see twitter falling for this gimmick.

Should be mandatory vote.  And abstentions should reflect on the # of votes needed to get to be Pm.  159 abstentions means 159 less votes the PM needs to get elected.   Or formal explanation why absenting.  Like related to so&so or I have media business with so&so or something.  Come on man, You can't just abstain without a reason.  Ugh.

Abstaining can be for a million reasons.

But not in this case, the only reason they abstained is they lack the minerals to go on record as showing their complete and utter disdain for the very people they are meant to be serving, cowards and scoundrels the lot of 'em...

Bhumjaithai MP Chada Thaised stole the limelight from Thailand’s top PM candidate Pita Limjaroenrat during the joint parliamentary meeting to elect a new prime minister on Thursday.

Defamation laws. Tread carefully.

The Thai people should sue the 159 abstaining senators, who are obviously incapable or unwilling to do their job.
