The Thai people call them ผู้บ่าวไทบ้าน, I call them wasters. These are the teenage males who sit round all day drinking whisky, riding their motorbikes around late at night and harassing other young people. They don't want to work and probably never will.

Luckily, there are none in my wife's family but the advice I give others is to have a word with the local army and when it comes time for their National Service, 10,000-20,000 baht can give a couple of years peace.

Also, if there are any guys out there who are contemplating marriage to a woman, who already hs a male teenage son DON'T do it!

Does anyone have any other ways to deal with these people?

Stop their mothers feeding them breast milk!

Thing is in truth though there are a lot of violent nutters out there with empty brains. Why do we rarley hear what happens (re. sentencing) after they have commited serious violent crimes. Of course we know the law is sympathetic if they kill or maim a ferang.

Sounds like young men all over the world.

I am just glad they aren't busy like some of those youngsters in the southern provinces!

Why would we need to deal with these people Neeranam? What does it have to do with us how our host nations decides to use - or not use - its human resources?

And while we're at it, why just the guys? What about the women who sleep all day before waking at 5, slapping on some cheap lipstick, donning their crappy short denim skirts before heading out in search of naieve farang men to fleece? Sure that's a sub-group of society that we should be paying more attention to? They have certainly done more damage to more farang guys, than their dimwitted brothers.

Bendix--good point. Those 'ladies' are more dangerous than the blokes. The blokes you only have to watch out for when trying to cross the road!

Thais treat their sons much more leniently than their daughters. So they grow up thinking the Sun shines out of their backsides......My GF has a couple of them.

Recently she lent her 14yr old her brand new Mio Yamaha. He drove it into the ground in just a few months, so when she got it back it needed 5000bht spent on it!

Now you would think he would get a good kicking for that wouldn't you friends?

But NO. She simply shrugged, took it to the repair shop and expected me to pay for putting it right!

When I told her to go jump in the Lake. We had to have a big row......

A good dose of 'The Protestant Work Ethic' is what they need in LOS. There seems to be no

such thing in their Buddhist religion........

With the usual exceptions, most girls have 2/3 kids by the time they are 20, and NO SUPPORT from their lazy good for nothing boyfriends/husbands. So, to pay for the childrens food etc, the poor blighters are forced to leave them with Mamma, and go off to the main tourist towns in Thailand, where their sell their bodies to Farangs.

(I include this for the benefit of those outside the country who are unfamiliar with the situation.)

The sight of hundreds of beautiful semi-nud_e young girls, calling out to passing men, from the many Bars (in Pattaya for instance) is a sad, sad sight indeed......even sadder is the fact that most of them have often brutal Thai boyfriends who take most of their money.

And PLEASE don't tell me it happens elsewhere....I BLUDDY KNOW!

And why must so many of us find yet another small group of "Not Like The Folks Back Home" to demonize? A great Asian wise man said, "Before you tell your friend he has a small speck in his eye, remove the huge block of wood in your own eye."

I'm sorry. I can't let this pass without comment.

For a start, the 'usual' exceptions amount to the VAST majority of the female population. Please don't judge an entire population by the company with which you keep. The 'usual exceptions' are too busy working in factories, shops, offices, hotels, farms etc all around Thailand to be having 3 kids by the time they are 20.

The cheap tramps you obviously hang around with are the exceptions, NOT the rule.

And who are these 'beautiful semi-nud_e young girls' you refer to, hanging out of bars? I think we must have very different definitions of beauty. Last time I was in Pattaya the only thing I saw hanging out of bars was farang bellies of different degrees of hugeness. The girls? Well, there were some females of pretty grotesque descriptions around but they were usually too busy sitting, talking in groups, sleeping or eating somtam to be able to tell if they were as beautiful on the inside as they were ugly on the outside.

and not to mention....wearing a face powder that is 3 shades lighter than their skin.....eeww!

I agree this nation does need "a fashion police" for these girls more than outsourcing part of our national budget for their pea size brain brothers! Since they will, most likely, be the first point of contact with our “farang guests”, we wouldn’t want our “guests” to think badly of our thai women…that all thai women are the same, would we?

Thai Wasters??

From my experience every country has wasters. A least they are not state sponsored like the Chavs back in the UK.

Really? What else do THEY need? If you want the Protestant Work Ethic thing go back to where it exists and stop trying to impose your values on a culture that has being doing OK without you. BTW do you support GW Bush?

you will never help any off them with that attitude towards them, same every where really youve got to get people interested in things, even work, if youve got a couple of these in your area try start them with somthing simple as we all did as kids, cleaning cars for money, cleaning gardens etc and build up to helping get them a job.

when you think back do you think anyone really needed us to clean there car or garden etc, i think not, they taught us work money and toys all go togeather, toys to include bikes cars houses etc

if someone works all day are more likey to sleep on a night than ride bikes round

try talking to em you might be supprised to find they are really nice people, not every one but give it a go!

might even make you feel good as well, best of luck.

I sometimes confuse Confucious with Jesus. Happens to the best of us. :o

Regarding Protestant Work Ethics here. The work ethic is fine, but please remember that the Thais have never had to rotate crops; endure harsh Winters; war; famine; pestilence; Plague; more war; religious persecution; etc. That is why its a great place to live. No?

Many elder farang marry women with teenage sons. I'm asking for ways people have dealt with it. If you don't have to deal with it why bother reading this thread, let alone reply? Bloody troll :o

Neeranam's comment on teenagers applies to greater or lesser extent to many of the more prosperous lands.

The spread of chav culture increases with prosperity and can be seen anywhere where it pays not to work.

The major difference in LOS is that many parents turn a blind to the boy's antics while being overly strict with the girls.

As for drafting boys, I suspect it would make many more violently disposed than they are already.

Fair comment too on marrying a woman with teenage kids, boys or girls.

Don't go there if you can avoid it, read about those with experience of this particular can of worms.

A cousin's son has turned out this way and to anyone paying attention it was an obvious end result for the boy. A mother who did whatever he wanted, gave him whatever he wanted, never disciplined him and treated him like a little god. An absentee father who's pathetic few attempts at discipline were undermined by the mother.

Sometimes, women are their own worst enemies. :o

Anyway, is there a solution? Well, education helps. If only to educate women to not raise their sons to become little monsters. I've heard of military style boot camps having quite an effect. Not giving them the means and ability to increase their violence as true military training might do, but introducing them to discipline and obedience.

No you haven't Bendix. We have every right to criticise whoever and whatever we want here on TV.

And Chevy. Do you think that the Thai Nation wants a lot of useless teenage gits roaming around on Motorbikes, stealing and killing (yes killing here in Pattaya) and giving the country a bad reputation? I think not......

Of course the nation doesn't want this. But if the perpetrator comes from a rich family and drives a Mercedes and uses said vehicle to kill people.... Well, the "nation" then condones "bail" via one of the "nation's" highest institutions (= the court). The question of "bad reputation" does not appear to apply in context of vehicular.... damage (I didn't say murder) of this category.

My wife has a son who was bum. But we spent 50,000 on driving lessons for him. Now since he only drinks a fourth of liter of whisty a day. We shall buy him a new car and he shall be a Taxi driver.

See with a little of love and money he can work. Boy do I feel good

Discipline?? In this country? Have you seen how most of their kids are raised from young? Not to say that this is not a serious problem in my own country as well, with all the gang-bangers.

Thank you, WaiWai. Jesus was born in Asia, from people who originated in southern Iran/Iraq/Mesopamia. He never left Asia, always preached to Asians, and his teaching was.......Asian. Native Americans (so-called "Indians") are also Asians, in their origin.

I assume that the Indian from India, the Lord Buddha, had quite a few things to say about children, or else the Thai monks should be leading Thailand to make better Thais out of their young men. Or as the Canadian wrote, "Parents, teach your children well."

Having taught Matayom school here, I suspect that some of the wild teenage boys have not been taught responsibility for their actions and inactions. Public school here does not teach them to do their work, think for themselves, or to learn.

And the area where Jesus lived doesn't belong to Asia? Last time I checked it did :o .

Ooops. I didn't see PB:s latest post before I wrote this...
