A former dean of the Faculty of Law at Thammasat University has asked Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to investigate 235 senators for allegedly defying ethical conduct rules over their rejection of Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s prime ministerial candidacy on July 13th.

 

Panat Tasneeyanond said that only 13 out of 249 senators voted for Pita, but 159 abstained, 34 voted against the candidacy and 43 were absent.

 

Abstaining from voting or absence from the parliamentary meeting on July 13th equates to rejecting Pita’s candidacy, said Panat, adding that their conduct amounts to a failure to adhere to democratic governance with the King as the head of state, which, he added, is a serious violation of the ethical standards stipulated in Sections 234 and 235 of Thailand’s Constitution.

 

The former dean alleged that the senators’ actions are tantamount to rejecting the parties which won the election and represent the majority in the House of Representatives.

NACC will kick that down the road for a while then forget all about it.

the senators simply followed the rule of law set out before them. what seems to be the issue ? 

The senate has got any ethics let alone credibility because they were told what to do by the election losers, who of course created the anti democratic senate in the first place to thwart the people's choice.

 

No doubt they have been amply rewarded for their dereliction of duty.

Good for him. Will be interesting to see what if anything follows.

 

Remember that optimism is empowering, pessimism is disempowering.

These senators were not appointed for their ethics, but for their allegiance.

This country has an unworkable system (as if you didn't already know that).   The correct time for deals, horse trading, maneuvers, etc. is prior to the election.  Here, it goes on indefinitely after the election, to the point where it supersedes the election .   If the process is supposed to implement the will of the people, the new government should be clear and cast in concrete immediately after the votes are counted.

The NACC is still two-years in on an investigation of Ruangkrai Leekitwattana with no results obviously.

 

 

He should file complaints with the House Speaker, and the Election Commission,

Before the election there's nothing hard to do a deal with or on, as amply demonstrated in May.  Noone (least of all PTP and perhaps including even MFP) was expecting the election outcome that actually arrived.

 

Lesson no. 1 of politics: Deals can only follow the election not precede it.

Total nonsense. This means nothing. The Anti-Corruption Organization of Thailand (ACT) is one of the most feeble and ineffective of all the tools Prayuth has used to deceive the people into believing that he is fighting corruption. Who was the last high level authority, in the police, immigration, the army, or the active administration they arrested, charged, tried convicted, and sent to prison? Nobody. Zero. Nunca. Nada.
 
Why? Because Prayuth has had a mandate from the beginning to do the very opposite. To protect the elite, the super wealthy who are guilty, those that are connected, and those who are in power. Just think Dark Tao. Just think Red Bull. The list goes on, and on, and on.

 

Only the most naive amongst us believe he or ACT secretary-general Mana Nimitmongkol are sincere about this.

And like it or not their allegiance to the glory of the military is very powerful.

 

Way too powerful, and none of them would ever step out of line in terms of showing they have total allegiance.

Bringing sections 234 and 235 of the constitution into play is an interesting new development.

Filing the case with the Election Commission would probably serve little purpose, because the candidates for appointment to this commission are selected by the Senate.

More likely the "rule" of direction from their pay-master who employed them initially. 

Nice idea. But in Thailand won't go anywhere. I would like to be proved wrong tho
