Absolutely, you would think large companies like these would think twice before doing something which may 'seem' innocent, but actually causes major problems. After the Bud Light fiasco, which is still ongoing, why would the marketing department take a potentially huge risk?

Companies should focus on their bottom line, not top or bottom surgery. I couldn't care less what Costa's marketing team thinks on any given issue, they are not politicians, decision makers or a pressure group. I care about the price, taste and service of my coffee.

 

In the same vein, people boycotting Costa over this are a bit ridiculous. I'm surprised they didn't complaint that the cartoon image only had 3 fingers instead of five. The joke's on them though.... avoiding Costa means you have to settle for a Gregg's coffee, or even worse, Starbucks.

I think boycotting them is correct. Not because it is LGBT but because this preaching is the thin end of the wedge. We saw recently with Farage getting debanked because of his political views. Companies need to be reminded to stay in their lane, serve us their products and keep their opinions to themselves on ANY issue, not only LGBT.

 

I don't need to be preached to on race, abortion, sexuality, religion, politics when I buy a product.

I don't want images of breast removal. I don't want images of abortion (pro or anti). I don't want images of cancer surgery, even if it was successful. I don't want religious imagery, even if it is my religion. It's not what I want when I am drinking a coffee.

 

Show me a nice sunset, a beach, a mountain or something. Let me relax for an hour without having some ideology/religion/poltical viewpoint forced down my throat. Or I'll go elsewhere.

I avoid big brand coffee shops. In most town there is a plethora of privately owned coffee shops. Locally run. 

 

At the same time there are those that are closinging down. Get into your local coffee shop and support them.

 

Use it or lose it.

That's my point. Most people will simply not notice it on the wall of a coffee shop. They're too busy playing with their smartphone.

 

I've just looked at the image again. I would not have linked it to surgery or anything mentioned in the article. Not that I frequent Costa anyway.
