No he wasn't. And the main reason for the problem was that about 13 years prior to the meltdown the government had fixed the THB\USD rate to 25\1. They controlled it by buying\selling foreign currency according to demand and supply.

George Soros realised there's an opportunity for good profit and started to attack the THB until the BOT nearly ran out of USD and has to give up.

Again, I'm not a fan of the guy, and he's done a lot of bad to Thailand, but had nothing to do with the meltdown.

Dun fudge the details 

he wasn’t in that government until after the baht was floated. And he was invited to join the cabinet as deputy PM only after the Asian financial crisis started and even then he resigned from the post after 3 months

Looks like Tony Woodsome expects he will need a bolt hole before long and is snuggling up to that loathsome dictator. Prostitute Thai Party will not last long and will disintegrate into a much lesser force because many supporters realise they have been conned by the billionaires.

A contingency plan is in place for the possible return of fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Whenever Thaksin does return to face legal action, the Thai government has already prepared plans to handle the situation, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said today (Tuesday).

 

Authorities concerned, including courts and the Corrections Department are ready, Wissanu said. He did, however, ask Thaksin not to arrive on weekends or public holidays.

 

“During those days, the courts, which would assign a jail for Thaksin’s detention, would not be working, which would make things difficult as we would have to find detention venue for Thaksin instead,” he said.

Fresh News and The Phnom Penh Post reported yesterday that the 74 year old Thaksin, and his 56 year old sister Yingluck graced the 71st birthday festivities of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen in Ta Khmao, Cambodia. The former Thai prime ministers made a brief visit to the country, spending a single night to partake in the celebration.

 

In a recent announcement on Saturday, Thaksin conveyed his plans to delay his return to Thailand from August 10 for about two weeks due to pending medical check-ups. Shinawatra, whose background lies in telecommunications, took to the popular social media platform Twitter to inform followers of his upcoming health checkup, which resulted in the need for him to reschedule his original plan to return to Thailand.


Having been overthrown by a coup in September 2006, Thaksin, for the most part, has lived in a self-imposed exile. He briefly came back to Thailand in 2008, only to flee once more prior to the Supreme Court’s ruling sentencing him for conflict of interest during his time as prime minister.

I think his doctor is going to find a medical issue that will prolong his time out of the country.

Naw with Anutin there you can be sure the military would make it a military hospital with no visistation rights.  He will stay away until he gets at worst house arrest.

Unbelievable! A high profile "criminal" wants to hand himself in to the authorities, but he is asked to not do it on weekends or public holidays!!! 

 

Maybe because it might increase the number of his supporters in the Big City there to give him a "hero's return welcome" which might lead to a conflict with the authorities?

Just stick him in any prison as you would anyone else, oop's I almost forgot that he's someone special, or so he himself thinks along with a few other misguided supporters.
