Thailand aims to be top Muslim tourism destination within 5 years

Thailand is projected to emerge as a principal destination for international Muslim tourists within the next half-decade. The Deputy Government Spokesperson, Rachada Dhnadirek, put forth this intent to lure more Muslim travellers, citing their rising numbers and increased spending capacity.

She noted, during her Friday announcement, that Muslim tourists comprised a major segment of Thailand’s tourism industry. An impressive surge in the volume of Muslim visitors to the country was observed last year, accounting for over three million, a substantial rise from the recorded 875,043 in 2017.

These figures, she recalled, were grounded in the data released by the Department of Tourism (DoT). An average Muslim visitor’s stay is around 13 days, with each guest spending approximately 6,000 baht per day.

The DoT has set forth an ambitious five-year plan from 2023 to 2027 to heighten the allure of the kingdom among Muslim tourists. This process aims to bolster the service quality of tourism operators to match international standards.

And they know this how?

That 6,000 baht per day includes all the medical Arab tourist that spend loads per day. I don't believe the noise biker's in Pattaya spend that amount per day. Average doesn't mean much.

About as much as ordering a beer on Asahna Bucha Day or telling a Christian must eat fish on Fridays.

"Different strokes for different people."

Lets westeners into the country for 30 years and they build cities like Pattaya from piles of bricks..

Now let them in and Pattaya will be soon a pile of bricks again..

All I could find quickly was 2019 Asean Post:

"A recent annual survey by Mastercard and CrescentRating found that Thailand is one of the top holiday destinations for Muslims. It found that an estimated 3.6 to 3.7 million Muslims visited Thailand last year, accounting for nearly 10 percent of total international arrivals."

From www.diplomat.com

"In 2019, they (Chinese) made up 11 million, or about 28 percent, of total international tourist arrivals."

With the current political issues and continued Muslim insurgency in the South (formerly the Muslim Kingdom of Patani), achieving the 2019 Muslim tourism levels seems reasonable, anything substantially higher would be unpredictable.

More TAT BS.  Only increase in Muslim tourism with be Mohamed and his mates showing up to be good muslim boys in Patong and Pattaya.  Patong is now completely Islamified now anyway...has been for a decade or more.

There are a few UAE families now showing up in the 5 Star Villas in my area.  The Thai staff that I know who work there hate them.  Treat staff like dogs, and never tip. Apparently the women are worse than the men to deal with.

So lets get ready  to welcome the ..."Taliban,"  "AL- Qai'da,"         & a few more I'm sure

Well one good thing is that most of them will go to the southern areas where the Muslim population is higher.

Came to Thailand from the UK especially to get away from them.

Not been to lower Sukhumvit lately? The "Muslim Area" now extends from Soi3/1-Soi 5 (where it always was as the all welcome"Arab Soi") to Soi 13 [the border for now].

It's a chance for the deep south

Roti, yummy.

Why not just- aims to be a top destination for rich Arabs, what's so special about a visitors religion? Can't imagine an announcement trying to attracts jews, mormons or devil worshipers.

I think you will find more farangs in Pattaya and Patong. Those places were set up for farangs.

And my friend who owns a big hotel prefers them as they are cleaner, dont drink and cause problems mostly and spend more.

Probably getting charged 5 star Villa prices and recieving 2 star service.

I assume they are paying a 10% service fee anyway?
