Thailand’s new prime minister Srettha Thavisin has set a new record, even though he has not yet started work as the country’s new leader, thanks to his height.

 

Srettha, whose is 192cm tall, towers over his predecessor, Prayut Chan-o-cha, whose stands at 178cm. He is Thailand’s tallest ever prime minister. Srettha is now the tallest ASEAN leader. Before former Singapore leader Goh Chok Tong was the tallest.

 

Among the world leaders, according to the South China Morning Post’s (SCMP) website, Serbia’s president, Aleksandar Vučić, is the tallest, at 198cm.

I once said to him - in jest - "The bigger they come the harder they fall".

His immediate response was a good one... "Who first said that, some little guy who couldn't do anything?"

He's also the world's biggest eater of Som Tum, Phat Thai, and Thom Yum Goong...

I am given to understand de Gaulle was 1.96 and the US' Lincoln was 1.93. Otherwise most of the nasties are/have been short: Putin 1.70, Kim Jong Il 1.60, Hitler 1.73, Thatch 1.65. The guy in Iran is just 1.52.

I have a good idea which end of the spectrum this latest Thai one is at……..

Unelected by the people...they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel to find something positive about their choice.

So does this mean he is looking down his nose at most Thai's ?

Two seconds reading the headline was more than enough. But I'm posting this headline on Facebook as an indication of what counts as news here. The Sun in the UK might pick it up, and you can't get dumber than that. Seriously, I'm stunned that this could ever be considered as news. Do you have any clue how a parliamentary democracy works? The Prime Minister position was not on the ballot. No party received a majority of the vote. The plurality winner was given the opportunity to form a minority government. It did not succeed so it went to the second largest vote getter who were successful in forming a minority government. A lot of foreigners don't seem to understand that Thailand has a majority conservative population. I wish that wasn't the case but it is.

I was a bit worried about Thailands political future but now, with an important attribute he has, I am no longer concerned.
