Pheu Thai Popularity Rating Drops To 10%: Sripatum Poll

THE POPULARITY RATING OF the Pheu Thai has exponentially declined due to a surprise about-face conducted by the post-election government’s core party under de facto boss Thaksin Shinawatra, according to the latest opinion poll of Sripatum University.

The Sripatum Poll, recently conducted among a total of 1,253 constituents from all walks of life in all regions of the country, has found the Pheu Thai popularity rating drop to only 10%, compared to the Move Forward’s 49%.

That was primarily attributed to post-election developments in which Thaksin’s camp had taken a surprise u-turn from their original coalition partners headed by the Move Forward to bring other parties which had earlier stayed on the other end of the country’s political spectrum into the Pheu Thai-led bandwagon, according to the Sripatum Poll.

Why the low numbers?....Because everyone knows the new boss is the same as the old boss....

So the Pheu Thai party’ is really only a shadow of what it was in the old days.....

PT have committed an unforgivable act of treachery in order to bring their owner home.

They can only hope their populist policies will keep the grassroots loyal but the bitter taste of betrayal can never be erased.

They won't be in any hurry to have an election any time soon.

He never was a friend of Thai democracy or the Thai people. I hope now that folks who did not live through his reign begin to understand his horribly decisive ways.

The best thing anyone can do for Thailand is to come together in friendship.  A divided population allows unscrupulous leaders to do as they please.

Pheu Thai = Traitors .

If Thaksin had his dirty fingers in what happened after the election , ( and I bet he had ... ) , he shot himself in the foot .

He is in the jailhouse now , and I hope that , opposite to what he had planned , he stays there .

If , ever , he is allowed to return to his " home " for " medical care " , it will be seen as another proof of Thailand's 3rd world grade due to omnipresent corruption

But how do you get the present Senate out of power?

That's the main issue here.

I don't follow their politics that much because it's a waste of space, but I thought I read somewhere that Prayut had loaded the Senate with certain posts that had to be given to the military and the Senate had to have so many seats reserved for the military?.

He won't have come back without cast iron guarantees his time in the slammer is short. Wissanu, the junta's legal wizard and legaliser of coups, has already said that Thaksin's cases could be bunched together under one pardon.

Apparently the family are preparing the papers, all speed ahead!

I read the whole process could take a month or two.

Still, even if Thaksin is fully pardoned, PT will be a prisoner as long as Thaksin is still alive, forced to toe the line by the old order.

Thaksin sold his party's soul for his liberty to return to Thailand.

He should have stayed in Singapore and flown his grandchildren over every other weekend if he really missed them

Like you I am short on the detail.... yes senate is loaded with military, but I thought they got to serve a limited 5 year term... hope that after that the lower house can modify things while they are out of the way.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along to explain it to us soon.

Asked about whether Thailand should have a new constitution, crafted by a council elected by the people, 75.53% said they agree, 12.14% said the charter should be amended and 3.85% said the charter should remain as is.

Holy moly! Only less than 4% of Thais actually agree with the current constitution. Now that is a damning result if I've ever seen one. Wow.

Eh, what?

I doubt PT care what the Thai people think, they are in power now.

Eventually their MPs will, if they fear losing the next election.

Not sure how the system works here, but..... would they survive a no-confidence vote? Would that trigger a new election?

What choice did PTP, or MFP for that matter have?

Both were out-maneuvered by the powers-that-be.

And with the giant ask for repatriating Thaksin, PTP had no choice. That was a huge debt.

IMO, PTP would be better served by being honest about the deal they made, why they made it and who they made it with.

Trying to keep that secret, when almost everyone knows what happened, may be their death knell?

Voters have been known to have a short memory, so even this massive betrayal and resulting well-deserved drop in popularity isn't something that a sprinkle of populist policies and handouts can't fix.

The Pheu Thai leadership knows that better than anyone else I'm afraid and might be banking on just that to happen.

Time will tell if things are any different this time around. I'm not very hopeful.

The choice they had was to wait until next May when the term of the present Senate stooges comes to an end. Any interim minority govt headed by BJT or Prawit would have been useless being so outnumbered by the original Move Forward coalition that a new election before next May or shortly after would have been inevitable. A MF, PT landslide would have been guaranteed then after the Senate shenanigans last month.

But PT couldn't wait because:

1 Its owner wants to come home

2. PT want to be in power, never mind who with and to hell with their promises to voters..

It's illegal to intentionally deceive voters in Thailand..

If someone can prove PT had every intention of teaming up with the junta uncles before the election, they should be dissolved.

I think many of the people who favoured Pheu Thai before have since moved on and voted for Move Forward as PT didn't really offer anything new. The 10% grassroots loyal are all the party has left.

Really? You think? I'd bet my last dollar both UTN and PPR will demand the senates ternure is extended for another XX number of years, or they may remove their support of PT in this coalition- Without the senate there is no back stop from preventing MFP having there own PM and amending 112 in any future elections. I suspect the sentators are here to stay.

I think PTP was banking on a landslide victory, when that failed, they knew their options were limited.

That was it all along! Just look at how many references to a "Landslide" there was before the "Election". Then MFP came along and Pi@@ed on their Chips!

PT broke its campaign promise. It has now become clear to many PT voters that the PT leadership no longer represents their interests. The desire for sincere and honest politicians is there. Even in the countryside there is this rule: "You should always do what you say." Many PT regular voters will not  forget this false flag maneuver.

It will be much more easier if PT didn’t form the coalition government. Even as a minority government, the military coalition and the appointed senates can vote to extend the tenure of the appointment that will secured their hold on power for the foreseeable future. With PT as the leading party in the government, they and other like minded parties can block any attempt to extend the appointment.

I believe next May is when the senates tenure is expiring..
We will see what happens before that comes if any shenanigans are at play.

Looking at the OP image Uncle Tu must be wearing his new elevator shoes.????
