My Work Permit was approved and handed over on the third working day after handing in the application! :D

No 'tea money' was handed over. :o

Everything was handled with a smile and absolute pleasantness. :D

Let's see how long this thread stays on a positive note.

Thai passport office would be in the running for the most efficient government department anywhere in the world - seriously.

Three days and a high tech passport is availble for pick up. No pissing about with application forms. An ID card is all that is required.

I'll attest to that. About 45 minutes in & out. Come back three days later. Bob's your uncle!

Admittedly I have not had much trouble nor had to pay any 'facilitation' fees for registering the business, with the Labor Department, Dept of Industry . . .

From start to finish it has taken just one month - and that includes licenses for manufacturing using chemicals.

Let's not talk about ToT, however . . .

Had a bit of a problem renewing my work permit this year. I couldn't get to the local labour office on time due to working offshore in Songkhla. I was one day late, so they cancelled the whole permit and I had to start all over again. Which was an immense ball-ache. :o

Sorry to be a downer on this, obviously.... :D

A year ago I got an installation (two phones and ADSL internet connection) within 24 hours of requesting one from TOT! :o No "under the table" fees either.

ToT engineer comes the same day when I complain my ADSL line is out of order at my local ToT office.

I must admit I give him tea money but only when gf has to phone him on his mobile because he came when we were not home :o

Our local postman delivers our mail to us directly, even when addressed to us by our first names and no address or location, just Koh Phangan. :o

Before we moved here from Singapore I thought I had experienced the height of bureaucratic efficiency - and probably have - but it seems the LoS is not far behind . . . in some cases.

Yes - some times things happen very fast in Thailand - much faster than we westerners are used to.

* Remote Issan village: Agreed to BF's request to build a house on land donated by parents. Work started less than an hour later - with the foundations poured the same day. Contrast this with Aiustralia - where it can take a minimum of 3 months to get permit to erect a garden shed.

* Tradesman arrived within 30 minutes of purchasing an instantaneous hot water system to install it.

Working on commision or job lot basis tends to generate speedy service, especially on Saturday afternoons.

Took me six days to get a ADSL from TOT in the new house last week.

I initially held out for True's quickest connection at 4Mbps but because I live on an estate the only service I could get was TOT, and their quickest line is 1Mbps (it's running at about max. 2/3 of that speed though, and is erratic - pretty pathetic really).

The house owner (I am renting) had to countersign all the forms as the existing telephone number was in her name and that was a pain. They didn't activate the ADSL for about 48 hours after the deal was done which was painfully slow considering.

Once the line was activated I setup the wireless router myself in about 5 minutes.

I had to buy a wireless modem/router myself as well, which was an additional waste of an afternoon as the TOT office had run out of them. :o

I can cofirm everthing you have written about TOT. Carbon Copy! :D DSL by TOT is very un-reliable, but it was the only service available....

Soundman.
