A powerful storm system is wreaking havoc across 54 provinces in Thailand, with the Meteorological Department issuing a warning today.

 

The southern region is experiencing the most rainfall, covering 80% of the area. Bangkok is also affected, with the residents urged to be vigilant for sudden flooding and forest runoff.

 

The storm system is moving across the northern and northeastern regions towards the low-pressure area over the Gulf of Tangjia. It is accompanied by a robust southwestern monsoon that continues to blow over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. This combination has resulted in heavy rainfall in some parts of the northern, northeastern, central, eastern, and southern regions, including torrential rain in some areas of the western southern region.

 

The public in these areas is being warned of the dangers of heavy to torrential rain and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to sudden flooding and forest runoff. In particular, people in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying areas, as well as those travelling through these areas, should be on alert for thunderstorms during this period.

For the last four days, the weather app on my phone has said 100 percent chance of rain. But there hasn't been so much as a drizzle.

I know right. Its almost like these weather reports are created out of some form of weird thai superstition. Like if they say it enough times they will actually make it rain.

 

Thats my slightly hungover thoughts on the topic anyway ????

Raining almost non stop here in Phuket since Friday

Mostly fine with a chance of showers!

The doom & gloom forecast of locally/PKK of drying up reservoirs and water shortages before rainy season even started.

 

And now, the 2 of the heavies rain months arriving...and read a news-blip the reservoirs have recovered nice.

Not so much here in Northeastern Lamphun province.  The catch basins for farming are still about 50% below normal and a whole lot of rice field are laying fallow this year.  The local river is but a trickle.  It's gonna have to do some serious raining in the next two months to catch up to normal, then expect higher rice prices next year as there will be shortages unless the Thai government limits exports.  It bodes not well.

The Weather Underground is usually pretty accurate, except this year when the forcast 75% chance of rain, we end up with fluffy clouds and sun.  Ditto about the Nun's nasty.

We have been getting the occasional storm and rain where i am in Uttaradit enough to fill the septic tanks and cause second flushing in the toilet which has just been emptied but i doubt he actually fully emptied them .

Pathum thani same as everywhere else none of these big warning have produced anything.  

These warnings seem to appear on a weekly basis nowadays.
Is this just so that they must be correct some of the time?

Which IMHO is pretty meaningless without a list of the 54 provinces affected.

There big storm warnings seem to amount to nothing here in Pattaya.

Had a slight shower Monday evening for about an hour, didn't amount to very much

Decent amounts of rain up here in North Kalasin. Sakorn Nakorn seems to have been getting loads too. 

i guess few few of you lives in Phuket. major rains all week, high seas, which are washing up to to my beach front sea wall ...have not seen that happening for quite a number of years.

I wonder what the purpose of these warnings is? Is there even a purpose? Are there many people in Thailand that never watch the news or weather forecasts and who never use the internet? Or is it just habitual or jobs for the boys?

I just knew you would have something sensible to say, Bob. Seems like a lot of people want to tell us that it is raining where they are. If I live in the same place as them, I can look out of the window; if I live elsewhere, I don't care what the weather is where someone else, I don't even know, lives.
