Defence minister denies appointing Shinawatra family members

Thailand’s new defence minister Sutin Klungsang denied a report today (Sunday) that he has appointed two members of the Shinawatra family as his chief advisor and secretary.

 

The report was based on a leaked defence minister order, appointing six individuals to his staff, including Payap Shinawatra, younger brother of former prime minister Thaksin as chief of his advisors, and Porpong, Payap’s son, as his secretary. The order on which the report was based was not, however, signed.

 

In his Facebook post today, Sutin claimed that the order is a fake, adding that he had not made any appointments at all because he has no authority to do so, until after the delivery of the government’s policy statement to parliament tomorrow.

 

Yesterday, Sutin attended a workshop on “Thailand’s security under the new world order and geo-politics”, held at Rangsit University.

Suthin Denies 2 Shinawatra Family Members Are Getting Defence Ministry Posts

DEFENCE MINISTER Suthin Klangsaeng branded as fake news a draft document circulating widely on social media today (Sept. 10) showing that two Shinawatra family members are getting important positions in this ministry, TV Channel 7 said.

 

“Regarding news that I have appointed people to various positions, I would like to inform you that no one has been appointed nor preparations made to appoint anyone.

 

“This is because I am still unable to issue any orders as according to the rules I have to wait for the policy statement to be delivered at Parliament before doing so,” he said.

I have learned that when a politician denies something, it's dang sure true it happened,

Seems a bit ridiculous that no staff appointments can be made till after the Parliament has received the Government's policy statement. Not obvious what the connection is between the two.

 

Meantime a Minister without staff is unable to function in any sensible way, I should think.
