Ex-Secret Service agent reveals new JFK assassination detail

Six decades later, new details are still coming to light in one of the most scrutinised events in American history: the assassination of President John F Kennedy.

Paul Landis, an 88-year-old former Secret Service agent who witnessed the president's death at close range, says in an upcoming memoir that he took a bullet from the car after Mr Kennedy was shot, and then left it on the former president's stretcher at the hospital.

It might seem like a minute detail in a case that has been poured over since the 1960s, but to individuals who have spent decades looking at every shred of evidence, Mr Landis's account is a major and unexpected development.

Conspiracies, over how many gunmen were involved, who was ultimately responsible, and how many bullets actually struck the president, have abounded in the decades since the assassination.

The idea that the true facts of the case differ from the official version is modern America's original conspiracy theory, and according to some historians, the killing instigated the nation's decaying trust in its government.

Depending on how one looks at it, Mr Landis's story either changes nothing or everything.

I for one certainly believe that there is much about the case than has been revealed, or ever will be revealed.

Why has it taken so many years for the OP information to be put forward? Was there a cover up that he forgot about at his age and said something he should not have ?

If it was a bullet that was not considered in the original investigation, it could mean that there has to be a second shooter, which would demolish the single assassin theory that they like.

I believe the theory all along was that a single bullet killed JFK and injured the other guy in the car. 

 

With the revelation in the article, there are now 2 bullets.

My understanding / study was that particular bullet wasn't all that magic (due to the slope of the highway etc) and it wasn't the fatal one. The fatal shot was the last one that only hit Kennedy. There were 3 shots identified by sound and impact ( the first hit a kerbstone a long way down from the target). This report changes nothing in that respect.

This article, along with many others, disagrees.

 

The whole point of the new memoir appears to be to disprove what is in the article. Possibly, at the same time, adding weight to your theory.

He spotted the bullet after the motorcade arrived at the hospital, and put it on the stretcher carrying the president. He now guesses Mr Kennedy and Mr Connally Jr's stretchers somehow collided, meaning the bullet was shaken from one to the other.

I read this as there are now 2 bullets. The one that ended up killing the governor was on his stretcher. The one found in the car on JFK's stretcher.

What's interesting about this case are the questions that nobody asks. Such as:

 

when Oswald abruptly fled his workplace, went back to his boarding room, and grabbed a gun, he left his boarding room in minutes.

 

Where was he going in such a hurry?

 

The answer if obvious if you have read the Warren Report, but the Report ignores this point. They released the raw data, but never put it together.

I should have said " the one that injured the governor.

 

Probably just as well he didn't die. If he had he would have been forgotten in the shadow of the death of the more illustrious JFK.
