webfact
Daily News reports that the marine environment in Chonburi is in serious trouble, with Dr. Thon, an acclaimed specialist in marine and environmental matters, sounding the alarm about the continuous occurrence of the "Green Sea" phenomenon. This crisis has now transformed the region into an area where marine organisms are perishing in significant numbers, rendering it off-limits. This critical condition is projected to endure until the conclusion of October. On September 15th, Dr. Thon Thamrongnawasawat, a marine scientist and faculty member at Kasetsart University, shared a Facebook post highlighting the extensive impact of the green sea phenomenon in Chonburi. He explained that the recent survey by the university revealed the widespread death of various fish species due to the proliferation of plankton blooms. These blooms, originating offshore, have been driven toward the Sriracha-Bangsaen area by changing wind patterns and coastal currents. The green water carries both dead fish and plankton into coastal aquaculture areas, affecting oxygen levels and endangering marine life. Dr. Thon emphasized the importance of understanding these complex factors and urged collaborative efforts to mitigate this ongoing environmental crisis, emphasizing that the situation would likely persist until the end of October. The severity of this issue calls for immediate attention and coordinated action to protect Chonburi's marine ecosystem.
