You could chat with the masseur and ask him or her how much salary they get per month. It seems Thais are mostly not hesitant to answer such questions.

In many massage places the masseurs only get commission per hour work.

I wonder how much of the 1600 THB ends up in the pocket of the masseur. I would be surprised if it is even 25%.

Really? East Coast US you are paying at least $120 for 90 minutes in an average place not including tip nor any of the extra amenities, such as hot tea, private shower, and mango sticky rice afterwards.

Many places for $20-40/hour all over the greater LA/SFV/SGV/OC area.   Most places will also offer early bird discounts (before 2pm) The $20 massages are generally done in large communal rooms with 50 people at once.

It doesn't make any sense at all to tip for a massage. You've paid for a massage and you've got a massage. What's the tip for? Did you receive a "special" service?

The masseuse gets sod all. IMO most goes to the establishment.

I never regretted giving a tip for a decent massage as it does require a lot of work. I just didn't tip too much.

So bloody what!

service has been given and paid for at the rate the establishment sets. If no extras have been given then why on earth would you tip her?

she can always go back to work at the factory if she thinks she’s underpaid.

Yep. Outrageous. The US is now the home of stupid pricing, on nearly anything. Especially anything labor related.
