Thailand remains neutral on Israeli-Palestine conflict

It was fortunate that Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara quickly issued a new statement clarifying Thailand’s position on the Palestine-Israeli conflict. Parnpree reiterated that Thailand’s position is clear, that we are neutral, as we do not have sufficient information. We do, however, condemn acts of violence, which are unacceptable to us.”

Thailand has a consistent policy of supporting a two-state solution in the Middle East, as advocated by the United Nations.

The latest figures show that the conflict between the Israeli and Hamas have caused more than one thousand casualties on both sides. Among them were 18 Thai workers who were caught in the cross-fire. The government is sending aircraft to evacuate Thais who wish to return home. Some of them have already arrived. There are additional 3,000 Thais who want to fly home.

Some want to move to safer locations, so that that they can return to work when the conflict subsides. The government has pledged to speak to their respective employers about taking them back.

Absolutely, but they can’t even condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine, or the genocide being carried out by the government in Burma, so condemning Hamas is certainly a bridge too far for them.

  • Really? What does saying we support Israel do? Doesnt achieve anything.   If you are so tough go join an army yourself.

Sad bunch of cowards

Neutral is smart. They don't want more muslims bombs in Thailand. They do business with Russia.

Unlike the Philippines, who aren't cowards and condemn Hamas:

"The Philippines condemns the attacks, especially against civilian populations," the Office of the President said in a statement following the surprise attacks carried out by the Hamas group against Israelis on Saturday and the eventual retaliation of Israeli forces against the Palestine group.

"The Philippines conveys its deepest sympathies and condolences to those who have lost family members and loved ones in recent attacks," the statement said.

"The Philippines understands the right of states to self-defense in the light of external aggression as recognized in the United Nations Charter," it added.

They too have lost many citizens in this attack. They too have a large Muslim population and conflict with Muslims has been ongoing for over a century.

If some Thais are still being held hostage being neutral is smart. Supporting Israel puts those lives at risk.

I don't know if you're speaking for Thailand as you use the pronoun "we". The Thai government's affirmation of neutrality is made by some politicians and they don't speak for everyone, and neither do you.

Neither do you. You are just a kw. 3000 lives still over there. Smart to be neutral.

That is just BS. I doubt Putin is even thinking along those lines. There are many dual Russian Israeli citizens living in Israel. It's just anti Putin propaganda.

Then they should man up and take a stand.

And if somebody dies you will accept it? Makes no sense. Your argument is null and void. They need to get the 3000 Thais out.

Neutral is the wise, diplomatic move, nothing cowardice about it at all.

I'm watching Thai TV at the moment, which unlike CNN, are showing bloodied children being rushed into a hospital, whose electricity has been cut off by Israel.

What Hamas did on Saturday was an atrocity but Israel is punishing innocent civilians, probably breaking international law. The majority of people in Gaza don't have anything to do with Hamas.

They made their choice. There are many more safe places. If you chose a well known troubled spot, don't come back and cry to mamma. Expat low educated labor is cheap and expendable. Learned that in Saudi Arabia.

Of course Putin will ally to Palestine.

That will distract from his illegal invasion of Ukraine.

The more money and weapons going to support Israel will mean less money and weapons for Ukraine.

It's interesting to read all the comments here.

Did Israelis and the Palestinians always live happily together in the last decades? Or is there a long history or violence and oppression?

A does something bad and B reacts. And because of that reaction of B, A reacts again. And then B reacts again, and then A, B, A, B over years and decades.

And then, after a while, both sides have lots of reasons to point out the other side and blame them.

Who is right?

Listen to some experts and it's obvious that A is right, and B is wrong. Listen to other experts and it's the other way around.

Should Thailand really pick one side? Why?

IMHO Thailand condemning violence is a good point. Why should they get involved in a war which has only losers?

Bunch of losers...

or they want to wait to see who wins and then choose the winner

Thai being neutral? Well of course they are; wouldn't want to get their hands dirty for either side, but not that they could anything so don't blame them. But neutrality is weak and pathetic. If everyone else were neutral in WWII, it'd have been game over for all. Having said that, there is evil on both sides here.

This forum is so <deleted> funny. A bunch of old people, just by the type how they write you can already see the picture of the typical Thailand expat sitting in front of a screen, complaining that Thailand is staying neutral.

You will be very happy if an international war breaks out that Thailand always maintained its neutrality.

How can you wish that the country you are living in takes a side in something that could evolve in a world war? As soon as bombs would rain over your neighborhood, EXACTLY the people here typing "ehh ehh COWARDS" will be the FIRST ONES who will poop their pants and cry for their mother.

You're repeating Bignok, I gave my opinion and you're entitled to yours. Wise people do not dismiss the atrocities of Hamas.

Lucky we have people like you to make the forum even funnier. You think if Thailand does like most other nations and condemns Hamas, they will go to war. That's ridiculous and hilarious at the same time.
