‘The Well-To-Do’ Might Not Get 10,000-Baht Digital Wallet: Julapun

DEPUTY FINANCE MINISTER JULAPUN Amornvivat said Wednesday (Oct.25) “the well-to-do” among all Thai nationals might probably be denied the Pheu Thai campaign-promised 10,000-baht digital wallet so that the government could finally find enough money to fund it.

Julapun who chairs a government subcommittee on implementation of the digital wallet project said alternatives have been proposed in effort to trim its total cost earlier calculated at 560 billion baht by probably denying “the well-to-do” a handsome part of the taxpayer’s money.

Though all Thai nationals aged 16 years and over had been earlier promised the Pheu Thai populist handout, the entire project might probably not cost as much as 560 billion baht because not every Thai would be entitled to it, according to the deputy finance minister.

He said the number of Thai nationals entitled to the 10,000-baht digital wallet each will be curtailed from 56 million to 49 million if those who earn a minimum of 50,000 baht in monthly pay or have a minimum of 500,000 baht in bank deposit are denied.

Damn! Madam earns more than 50k per month as my "personal assistant" ("assistance" is provided in the kitchen, in the bedroom, in the shower).

Yes, it's a tax "optimisation" thing :whistling:

    Don't declare it, Crossy!

So are they going to search all the nation's tax and bank records to weed out the well to do?

This idea has plenty of problems to begin with but at least when every person got 10,000 it was fair...

But when someone decides who is rich and who is not this opens the door to all kinds of hanky-panky..

The rich will become poor and the poor will become rich...

The stench is strong with this plan..

It is more and more obvious that nobody thought this through. They don't know who should get the money, they don't know how to implement it, the radius or area where it can be used, and I am sure there are other issues.

On the other side it is obvious that they wanted to buy voters and that there will be big scams attached so that all that money is not "wasted". TiT. No transparency at all. And some people still support that party of the criminal.

Stupid idea from the beginning and difficult to implement .

It will create more trouble than good and fail to ' boost ' the economy as well .

So , 7 million Thai people earn more than 50.000 a month or have 500.000 or more in their accounts .

Who will check the private accounts ?

Or will the banks be required to give this info to the authorities ?

Not a good idea .

This has to happen. It was pre ordained as it is part of the New World Order plan. Many Thai people already don't own anything, eat bugs, and are happy. This is just window dressing.

Thailand refines 10,000-baht digital handout eligibility amid wealth exclusion fears
by Mitch Connor

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin announced that the government is developing criteria to determine eligibility for a 10,000-baht digital money handout amid speculation that affluent individuals might be exempted from the scheme.

The prime minister, also serving as finance minister, stated that the government is refining the scheme following recommendations from diverse sectors.

PM Srettha remarked, “I am listening to opinions. There will be a proper definition of who counts as rich to ensure fairness. Some groups who are not in trouble may not have to receive it.” This statement came in response to queries about potential adjustments to the eligibility criteria and the consideration of wealthy individuals.

The prime minister also acknowledged Bank of Thailand (BoT) Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput’s suggestion that rich individuals should not be eligible for the handout. “We acknowledged a recommendation from the Bank of Thailand governor that we should be more specific [about who is eligible].”

No. That's the point, you are plainly not. You are carrying on as if you are the CEO of a toxic company that's a nightmare micromanager. You have created instability, mistrust, and the people didn't even want you.

I strongly oppose CBDCs and the perils of centralisation and agree. Governments cannot be trusted to act in the people's best interests. But I can't help but think that Thailand's effort is 95% utter incompetence and desperate clinging to power rather than there being an evil plan.

Rural Thais learned that a long time ago. I walk in the countryside most days and there's never a day when I don't see someone foraging or fishing for their supper.

Even my wife, who has no need to go searching for free food will go off foraging sometimes. It's in the DNA I suspect.

The 3 stages in politics: promise, don't do, explain that there are more important issues at hand.

Here we go. Next, Thai women with foreign husbands will be denied payment.

Only pay to Thais who have paid tax in 2023-2024.

If they earn enough to pay taxes they don't need the hand out!

Phew....a lot of retirees dodged the bullet with this one

I wonder if tax paying foreigners will also get the 10,000 Baht?

No. They didn't vote for this criminal's party and his clown of a nominee PM in pink socks.. They voted for some one else to be PM.

No.

So great. They've now downgraded it to a means tested vote buying hand out and cut out 12.5% of the recipients to rebut criticism and put the blame on the governor of the Bank of Thailand who would prefer they scrap the whole scam. But they still haven't explained how they will fund the reduced amount of 490 billion which is a big problem only slightly smaller than it was.

I wonder, if it is taxable. They probably haven't got that far in their thinking yet.
