Long, long, ago, I actually did some testing of "alternative" grounding techniques.

 

Several worked rather better than anticipated, certainly well enough to operate an RCD/RCBO.

 

This was not one of them :whistling:

 

EDIT My post was even featured on the website of the IET (the UK regulatory authority) of which I am a member, many "laugh" emoticons there of course.

Then there's the "screw into the concrete wall" technique, usually using a plastic wall-plug to ensure insulation.

Wow that's worse than my daughter in laws electrics. Some of the lights actually work as well.
