webfact Posted November 2, 2023 Posted November 2, 2023 In Songkhla, a province known for its vibrant Buddhist processions, the Wat Santivarakun in Sadao district has distinguished itself with a unique Chinese-styled ceremonial boat, a first and only of its kind in the region. Deviating from the typical Thai designs found at other temples, this ceremonial boat boasts traditional Chinese architectural features, reported INN. During the annual Buddhist Lent procession, it is customary for temples to parade these sacred boats, inviting local communities to participate in the merit-making by pulling the boats and offering prayers. The Chinese-styled boat from Wat Santivarakun, located in Moo 1, Tambon Samnak Kham, is adorned with Chinese roof structures, lanterns, and vibrant blinking lights, creating a spectacular sight, especially at night. This boat is not only a visual treat but also a spiritual hub, with monks aboard giving blessings and leading prayers before the revered image of Luang Pu Thuad, believed to bestow auspiciousness. Recently, the community had the opportunity to witness and engage in the blessings as the boat was paraded to Ban Thung Lung, Phatong sub-district, in Hat Yai, Songkhla, marking a night of shared faith and beauty. -- ASEAN NOW 2023-11-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
