New minimum wages for Thailand will be announced in December, but the rates will be less than 400 baht per day, Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said Monday.

 

He said that the new wages will vary from one province to another, depending on the economic situation and cost of living in each.

 

Since October 1st, 2022, there have been nine minimum wage rates in the 77 provinces. The highest are 354 baht/day in Phuket, Rayong and Chon Buri and 353 baht/day in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan and Samut Sakhon. In the rest of the country, the minimum wage ranges from 338 baht to 345 baht.

Many developed countries have a "city rate" as apposed to rural areas.

In the UK the rural (farming) minimum wage is far less than the national minimum wage.

Thais love complexity. Just look at their architecture. Or their immigration rules. Or their infrastructure planning. Or their 'Constitution'.

 

Complexity means there's always an escape route.

Oh the Low earners  don't count . The rich get richer the poor get poorer 

Not that 400 tb or 500 tb is rich in Western eyes but for the low earners an extra 50/60/100 baht per day would mean a lot

In the US states can set minimum wages higher than the federal rate. Over 20 states are set higher than federal minimum. Washington state is the highest set at $15.74/hr vs federally legislative rate of $7.25/hr.

100 a day might help Somchai 

The big question, though is what are the prices of the things he needs going to do.

 

remember that out of that 100 a day, he will pay the government probably close to 25 baht.

 

Then there will be a raise in the cost of items.

 

If the government raises the wages of all government employees someone is going to have to pay tht

If you are referring to income tax, Bht150000 is the starting threshold. Below that it is 0%.

So if Somchai is working 6 days a week @ Bht 500 = Bht 3000 = Bht 156000 per year. So he will pay 10% of the extra Bht 6000,
