A 24 year old American woman was sexually assaulted by a man in her apartment, following a meeting arranged via a dating app. The 25 year old suspect, Tienming Ho, asked if he could spend the night at her place, and then committed the crime. Ho allegedly confessed to the offence and was apprehended by the police at 11.15am today.

 

The arrest occurred at a residence in Huai Khwang, Bangkok, and was led by Police Colonel Sunthorn Malawet, the commander of Somdet Chaopraya police station, alongside Police Colonel Niphol Suknium, the commander of the 8th division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau. The arrest was made following a warrant issued by Thonburi Criminal Court, numbered 868/2023, dated November 7.

 

The crime was committed on 2 November. The victim, an American woman, met the suspect, known only as Tim, through the Tinder app. After meeting at a bar, the suspect asked if he could stay at her place, to which she agreed, stating that there would be no sexual intercourse as she had to work in the morning. However, at 2am on November 3, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted her against her will. The victim then managed to evict the alleged rapist from her apartment.

 

After receiving the report, investigators from Somdet Chaopraya Police Station, officials from the 8th division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and officers from the Immigration Bureau and the Tourist Police Bureau cooperated in the investigation. They interrogated the victim, and witnesses, and tracked down the suspect, Ho, a 25 year old Chinese national.

I must say that a young woman allowing some strange young man to stay overnight is a recipe for disaster; ok, in theory, no means no and all that, but we live in the real world not some utopian fantasy world, where a naked virgin with a sack of gold over her shoulder can walk from Land's End to John o' Groats, unmolested.

A woman who agree to a stranger male to spend the night at her place is giving the wrong signals, no wonder the man thought that making a sexual advances would be ok by her, it's really a no brainier, she should have known better...

Stupid to let him stay, she made a stupid mistake, but I also don't condone rape or sexual assault, there may be a bit more to this may be they had a few drinks at home and something got out of hand, who knows until the full story comes out, hope she's OK.

She made a bad choice by allowing him to stay there.  Especially a stranger.  Even if she might have liked , or been attracted to  him .  No means no.  And he had no right to force himself on her. 
it has nothing to do with nationality, race, etc. it’s the type of person he is.  
And a sexual assault doesn’t have to be rape.  It can be defined as a number of things 

I don't think I've even been to Huai Kwang but neither can I think of any tourist I know that's stayed there. It looks very close to Ratchada though................just saying

They met on Tinder. It’s a hook up site, And she didn’t know him but said he could stay with her. As far as her saying no fooling around I don’t believe it. That’s what people do meeting on tinder

Not disagreeing with you and I've posted similar but......a slight correction - whilst Tinder is a hook up site in most countries, a significant number of Thai females use it for regular dating.  This was a young American woman though, she knew exactly what Tinder is more widely used for.

I do not condone rape or the assault... But who knows for sure what she claims is accurate? 

She could be angry because he refused to pay after servicing her. Or perhaps he finished and she didn't and he left so she decided to make a case against him. Or perhaps she really did change her mind and he continued his fondling of her after getting aroused by her. As others have posted, Tinder is a hook-up site. She know what she was getting into when she invited him to sleep over. 

Then again, he is Chinese so perhaps she planned to sleep with him and then saw his small penis and laughed and said no... haha... But it is safe to assume I think that Chinese have shown lack of control in the past. Perhaps he understood her No to mean yes. hmm... If she was able to push him out of her room after sex then why she could not push him out before? 

The fact is that if you have consent for sex, and the woman makes a claim later that she changed her mind and said no, the man is screwed and there does not need to be any kind of proof for the assault or rape. Your own GF or even wife can make a claim like this if she is angry enough and wants you to get into trouble.

Sorry, but that is even more weird. I have actually met numerous of women that let me sleep over, just because they wanted to hold and cuddle through the night. Not sex at the first date. Unfortunately, that seems to be a hard thing to control and understand for many posters here.

Perfect gentleman? No, not really. Just a normal individual that can listen and control myself. Something that is a must for all regarding this. Otherwise it´s called rape and is a criminal and disgusting act.

Rape is rape, a crime is a crime, he should be prosecuted.  But she is the dumbest person in the world and, yes, bears responsibility for what happened to her, no less than if I drive to a poor neighborhood and leave valuables in plain sight in the car, or tease a dog and get bitten.

 

Inviting a stranger to your house after meeting them in a bar, via a hook-up website -- and then saying who could have expected something bad to happen? -- is absurd.

 

That said, may she get the help she needs, and may the Thai police do an EFFECTIVE investigation and not just let him leave the country.
