SUKHOTHAI (NNT) - Sukhothai province is set to welcome visitors to its 46th edition of Loy Krathong Festival from November 18 to 27 at the historical Wat Mahathat in the Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The festival, under the stewardship of Governor Suchart Teekasuk, is set to showcase the province’s storied traditions and cultural prestige.

The ten-day event will feature a range of activities designed to captivate both Thai and international tourists. Highlights include an elaborate fireworks display, a traditional cultural parade involving nine districts, and a competition for the best krathong—a floating floral arrangement that is a centerpiece of the festival.

In addition to the aesthetic delight of the Khon dance and the Noppamat beauty pageant, the festival will host a communal meal on mats, known as Khao Kwan Wan Len Fai, which fosters a sense of community and tradition. Artisanal crafts and local products will be available at a traditional market, alongside DIY activities and photo opportunities at landmark spots.

Organizers said the event is not only a showcase of Sukhothai’s historical legacy but also an important contributor to the local economy, drawing crowds eager to experience the region’s rich cultural heritage and its important events.
