BANGKOK (NNT) - Major airports in Thailand will soon be lowering charges imposed on airlines, in an effort to boost flight frequencies.

Airports of Thailand (AOT), the operator of major international airports in Thailand, revealed it is lowering operational and slot fees collected from airlines. This temporary reduction will be made available for domestic and international operators.

Following a meeting with the Bangkok Airline Operators Committee (BKK AOC), AOT’s Executive Vice President Sirote Duangratana said the AOT will be reducing its charges for applicable flights, which cover landing and take-off charges, aircraft parking fees, and jetbridge charges. The lowered charges will be applicable for 5 months, from now until 31 March 2024.

Mr. Sirote said this measure would help support the expected increase in foreign visitors, due to the government’s visa waiver policy for visitors from China, Kazakhstan, India, and Taiwan.

Around 25% of the total flight slots at 6 AOT-operated airports remain available for new flights, particularly outside of the three rush hour periods from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and 2 a.m. to 5 p.m.

All AOT-operated airports are well prepared to handle the increase in passengers and flights. The airport operator anticipates that this campaign will increase both flight and passenger numbers by 20%.

Thailand seems desperate for tourist money, visa free entry, reduced flight costs (assuming the airlines pass the reduction on). What comes next.

Thailand is desperate for any money... it's flat broke.

Srettha is going around with the begging bowl  asking any internationals companies to invest in Thailand.

Not exactly broke, not with public debt at only 60% of GDP and USD 220 billion in foreign currency reserves!

Who can blame the PM for trying to drum up international business, it's easier and more lucrative to persuade external funds to invest here than it is to try and squeeze money out of residents.
