Thailand news - The question follows the posting from a Chinese Tik Tokker last week and the Thai officials' response, along with another story of a woman raped in Koh Chang.

The new minimum wage rises have been announced, Anutin rolls up his sleeves and gets involved in a pub raid, Pattaya's nightlife associations promise to keep better surveillance on the ages of the city's sex workers. Meanwhile the new 4am closing times will also involve alcohol testing and venues providing areas for drug people to sober up before heading home.

Tim Newton Today is a daily take on Thai and regional news and issues of interest to expats and foreign tourists.

For a lone female, most certainly it is not...  a lot of places aren't.

The above comment is also agreeable (70% in daylight, yes, after dark no)....

One of my Wife's friends is a resort Manager on Koh Samet - she was told there is large degree of unreported rape that occurs on the Island (how trues this comment is, is of course unknown, but its not unbelievable).

Wife and all her friends used to drive themselves (and drink) because the alternative of taking a taxi home at night was not an option.

Taking a taxi as a single woman at night in Thailand is an absolute no-no (according to my Wife).

Speaking as a single woman who has spent many, many decades in Thailand:

It is  safe as compared to most other places (and a lot safer than some).

But a woman travelling alone is always at some risk, anywhere, and one has to use caution and common sense.    Especially when in an unfamiliar country/culture, where it can be harder to read the signals/recognize untrustworthy people and situations.
