PHEU THAI MP PATTANA Sappaso was today (Dec.15) charged with breaking the election law by posting content of a vote-wooing campaign speech online during prohibited hours ahead of last May’s general election.

The Election Commission pressed the criminal charge against the Pheu Thai MP of Sakon Nakhon who had allegedly posted a 4.50-minute video clip on his ruling party’s campaign speech on social media whilst all electoral activities had been prohibited by law from 6.00 p.m. on the day before the May 14 election.

Though Pattana had contended that he had not done so himself and not been aware of anyone who may have posted the campaign speech online during the prohibited hours, the commissioners have spurned it as a lame excuse.

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to take legal action against Pattana Sapso, a Pheu Thai MP for Sakhon Nakhon, after it found that he had canvassed for votes online during prohibited hours leading up to the May 14 general election.

The EC investigation was conducted after it received a complaint alleging that he had violated sections 70 and 79 of the Election Act of 2018.

The complainant claimed that, on Election Day at 6:55am, Pattana’s Facebook page re-posted an item from the Pheu Thai party’s Facebook page. The post in question included a video clip depicting the election campaign speech by Paetongtarn Shinawatra, a prime ministerial candidate at the time, which was given on May 13th, the eve of the election.

In response Pheu Thai has vowed that future excuses will not be lame. To that end the party plans to send its MPs to special Excuse Seminars designed to heighten excuse levels. There will be a quarterly review of the EQI (Excuse Quality Index) and MPs who fall short of the standard will have to stfu.
