PHETCHABURI, Dec 27 (TNA) – Today is the first day that officials from the Department of National Parks set up monkey traps around the Phra Nakhon Khiri historical park or Khao Wang in Phetchaburi to capture the long-tailed macaques and relocate them to the temporary shelter at the Huai Sai Wildlife Rescue Center.

This decision was made due to a monkey population spike, which has been affecting the livelihood of the local residents. These monkeys known for their bold behavior came down from the hill to steal goods, causing damage to properties and creating disturbances for the local residents.

Relocate them up north in the jungle.

During a family visit here about twenty years ago we were climbing in single file the steps up the hill when a large male macaque appeared over the border wall and snatched a biscuit from my grandson's hand. My wife jumped forward to protect him and the monkey bit her arm. Before I could react my son-in-law a six foot rugby player had leapt forward and with a rib-crunching kick lofted the beast into the air, over the wall, and crashing into the undergrowth.

My wife had to be treated at a Hua Hin hospital with a course of anti-rabies shots.

Of all the cute monkey species, never trust a macaque or baboon!

In my opinion, it is not only in Phetchaburi, why is it not also done in other districts like Lopburi, Hua-hin, and more.
Or maybe it is because no one wants to visit the palace on the hill anymore.
