The Corrections Department has granted permission for convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to continue to receive medical treatment at the Police General Hospital after the expiration of the 120-day limit.

Director-General of the Corrections Department, Sahakarn Petchnarin, told the media today that, on Monday, he approved a request from doctors at the Police General Hospital, explaining that Thaksin needs further treatment there, otherwise he may suffer life threatening complications.

This is the first time that he has broken his silence sinceHouse Police Affairs Committee Chairman Chaichana Detdecho challenged him to declare whether Thaksin is still at the hospital or not.  Members of the committee are scheduled to visit the hospital tomorrow, in an attempt to discover the truth.

Sahakarn said that he has not met or visited Thaksin since he was sent from the Corrections Department’s hospital to the Police General Hospital on his first day back in Thailand, after more than 15 years of living in self-imposed exile to avoid incarceration.

It never ceases to amaze me the power of position and money in Thailand.

I feel so sorry for this man, NOT. Even when his "incarceration" ends in 2024, he appears to be so sick that he'll probably have to leave the "police hospital" where he is serving his sentence, in a wheel chair or on a stretcher. It will be impossible for him to indulge in any political activity as he is way too sick for that. And those grand kids that he wanted to play with, sorry guys, but you can push the sick, old man around slowly in his wheel chair. (all sarcasm intended).

The one that always gets me is the ability to come up with blatant and farcical lies (like a Russian foreign minister), and act as if that justifies everything, the people should accept that.

He must be critically ill to have been rushed to hospital in the middle of the night and still be there months later.

Farcical that this charade is allowed to continue and blatantly lie to the people.

Ok, right, but 90 is a "farm boy" IQ, let's say that the others are "dumb farm boys".

plausible deniability, you know for the future, when a different party forms the government and the lawsuits roll in

Diplomacy being shown by countries around the world which has little to do with how important Thailand is.

Whilst that is certainly your long term hope, and one which you have evinced quite regularly (funny but I thought openly wishing death on people was against forum rules, but then you do seem to have some leeway in these matters); if he does die it raises the question onto which unfortunate will you turn your obsessive attention?

ALL the Thai people I have spoken to about this know that it is all a game. Not one person even believes he is sick.

Why on earth don't they stop this expensive and ridiculous charade?

  • Popular Post

He looks ghastly.

Maybe he really is sick.

If so, keep him in the hospital - for a long, long time.

True. It seems farangs are more vocal about this. Get over it. Enjoy your stay in Thailand and don’t worry about their internal politics. These crooked laws are beneficial to farangs who from time to time need to bend the rules.

What??? And admit they were wrong??? :cheesy:

The obsession that these people have with Thaksin is astounding....a past PM convicted for a land tax case that would have seen him imprisoned for some time.

Now it seems he's someone just so special...praise be to Thaksin the great....!
