snoop1130 Posted January 17 Share Posted January 17 BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Interior has announced that nearly 130,000 people have registered for the government's program aimed at tackling informal debts. Of these, approximately 111,000 registered online, while around 19,000 did so onsite. Notably, 94,000 of the registrants are informal lenders. Since its inception on December 1st last year, the program has recorded a total debt of 8.35 billion baht. The province with the highest number of registrations is Bangkok, with 10,700 registrants and a debt amounting to 751.42 million baht. Conversely, Mae Hong Son has the fewest registrants at 202, with a total debt of 11.38 million baht. The ministry further reported that nationwide data on informal debt mediation shows that about 10,000 debtors have entered the mediation process. Of these, 4,200 cases have been successfully mediated. The total debt before mediation was 843.27 million baht, which was reduced to 489.95 million baht after the mediation process. Nakhon Sawan province remains the province with the highest number of debtors entering the mediation process, nearly 3,000, with about 100 successful mediations. Recently, the Ministry of Interior has emphasized to provincial governors, district chiefs, and related administrative officials the importance of vigilantly monitoring individuals or groups that might be involved in informal lending operations. The ministry is also urging the officers to act as coordinators among all relevant sectors to facilitate and provide full assistance to the citizens suffering from debt issues.
