Finally some good news about tinnitus

Recommended Posts

The link works and Thanks. I have had it since my late 50s. Most of the time I don't notice it, but it does seem to be getting louder now that I am in my late 70's. I find it gets worse if I have been wearing headphones for a long period.

Not to get into a pissing contest about suffering, but I also have periodic bouts of optical migraines along with the steady ringing noises from the tinnitus.  This leads me to believe that there is some type of electrical imbalance in my system. A voltage meter placed on my skin shows a steady charge of about  200 millivolts where the average human is said to have a lot less at around 70 millivolts

For me it boils down to the same thing that happens when a  wire with too much electrical gain amplifies a humming noise.  We are the result of  hundreds of thousands of years of  evolution. I'm just not sure if the problems are  from humanity's' distant past or for the distant future...

Music helps. I have an extensive playlist of most genres  of music to keep myself distracted by trying to memorize the part of every single instrument or voice.  Got a music scholarship in  the late 1960s because the steady tones allowed me to mimic the gift of perfect pitch so it's not all bad news to report   .......

I saw an article in a UK newspaper mentioning the following link https://www.mindear.com/

I tried to download the app, but got the message"not available in your country" which means Thailand.

When you use the Opera browser and switch on 'vpn' it works, however in my case and I stay in TIT.

There are all sorts of theories around tinnitus, various causes and with that, various solutions. I've suffered from what I would term "low-level tinnitus" where most of the time I can't hear it and forget it's there. But when I would go to a quiet place and I think about it, it was still there.

I suffered for a couple of years with a bunch of symptoms which I swore were related but doctors said were not: digestive issues, insomnia and tinnitus. After giving up on the medical profession who simply could not help me, it took a massive amount of reading online to work out what the problem was. It was my diet which was very high in oxalates that was causing all sorts of issues.

I won't go in to the mechanisms of how oxalates mess your body up as it's complicated. But basically, for some people, oxalates aren't easily excreted. (Your liver does NOT detox them, rather they have to be excreted via urine or in your stool). In simple terms, when I cut right back on foods very high in oxalates (in my case I had been eating nuts in significant quantities for a long time as well as dark chocolate and other high oxalate foods), it gave my body a chance to clear the oxalates. It took a few months until, amazingly, my tinnitus got quieter and quieter and then went away completely. My insomnia went away too.

In one book I read (Toxic Superfoods by Sally K Morton), a specialist who helps people tinnitus said that he had had great success treating people by using a low oxalate diet.

This worked for me. I don't know if it will work for anyone else but it's worth trying.

WARNING: This may be "TLDR" for some, so feel free to skip it, but please don't bother with the confused or laughing emoticons. Some of you may find it interesting and I will come back later to report if something substantial happens.

As someone else said there are several reasons for tinnitus, and there are numerous "cures" and remedies on YouTube, but mostly they don't work much (I will read the OP's and other poster's articles after this post). But I think you're on to something re diet in some cases. I have had low to moderate tinnitus for a few years, and never addressed it until recently, where I experienced a rapid (a few months) hearing loss on both ears. Mostly in terms of muffled sounds especially from tv, but in general too. My thinking is that in my case tinnitus was an early warning of hearing loss I ignored back then, since it wasn't bothering me much. In some cases the tinnitus is caused by the brain filling in the missing information in the audible spectrum, even before we really notice the reduced hearing since it is slow and gradual.

So I got in to do a hearing test at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya, which showed exactly what I was expecting. But the doctor just said: "old age (66), go get hearing aid. Next!". Any further discussion about root cause and possible remedy was useless. So for a second opinion I went to see one of the experts in the field at Bumrungrad Hospital, Prof. Dr. Saowaros (thanks @Sheryl). She did dig deeper and said my hearing nerve seems ok, but there was a problem in the seashell-like thing in my ears (cochlea). But she had no idea of the cause. On my question she confirmed that it could eventually lead to total deafness. My guess is that it is from auto-immunity (I have some other issues with that already), and this in turn is usually caused by a leaky gut, probably in itself caused by a very bad lifestyle over many years.

So I am doing a massive medical check-up in 2 days time, and will be back with the doc early February to discuss the test results and any possible treatment, if nothing else but to slow down the deterioration.

In the mean time I am trying what I can to help the situation myself. Firstly I am transitioning away from all sugars, fruits, gluten, dairy and omega six oils. Thats done already, and is easy since I am used to keto diets in periods. I have also started removing all "offensive" veggies (i.e. almost all for me), and will in the next 2 weeks go all the way to a 100% carnivore diet (meat/fish/egg yolks/butter/salt/water), even cutting out herbs, coffee, etc. I will also cut most nutritional supplements (I have been taking way too many), but will add in GABA and Taurine, which may help my situation. Then re-test and evaluate after 3-4 months. In addition I work on keeping the stress down with meditation and gratefulness, plus of course exercise and plenty of good sleep. So even if all this (and more) doesn't help with hearing loss, there are so many other benefits for health that it will be well worth it. And when I feel totally stable I can experiment with adding back one veggie at a time and see what happens. A long process (at least one month per item), but well worth it.

Wish me luck!

As soon as you see the first signs of an aura, taste a little salt. If it tastes good, take a gram or so.

Best if you have capsules, but impossible to get here...I make them for SWMBO, who suffers from migraine. She has to take a lot, and it controls the condition. No doctor will tell you this, but there is a lot of research out there to back it up.

I have to make 200 - 300 capsules a month, 300mg each.

I, like you, get occasional migraine aura, no headache. Salt works for me, but I only get them occasionally, less than one a month.

I would not be at all surprised if your tinnitus were a manifestation of migraine without headache.

Do let me know if it works or not!

If anybody tries this could you please let us know if you got any results from the device? I have had severe tinnitus for over 10 years now, it's non-stop, I would say the volume is about 9 out of 10, and I've tried countless therapies. Herbs, acupuncture, chiropractic, and other potential remedies, nothing has worked. Even if I could find something that would reduce the volume that would be a huge relief. Tinnitus is not something I would wish upon my worst enemy.

Be very careful around very loud noise such as ambulances, and especially very loud bars, clubs, movie theatres, or concerts. Many rock stars have warned against the potential dangers of permanent tinnitus from very loud environments. I always carry ear plugs with me at this point as I'm fearful of the volume becoming even louder.

The challenge is that the only way to get lenire is at a Lenire clinic.  None in Thailand lol

The Duo they talk abut is a rental at 249 US a month.

Not sure either will be avail in Thailand soon.

Tinnitus has been my companion for 45 yrs.

As a boy a dead tree branch penetrated my ear canal, perforating my ear drum and dislocating my hammer bone.

The drum started healing before rupturing again (mere weeks) and I’ve had tinnitus since.

At times I’m oblivious to it at others acutely aware.

10 years ago, I still could ignore the tinnitus while watching tv

not anymore... 24/7  jet engine in both ears, different tone...

I never walk alone.... lol and not lol

can understand why some people cannot handle and end it...

no cure in sight, lots of scammers

white , pink, brown noise ?  nope, if I leave a fan on , I cannot even fall asleep

ah, I got hyperacusis on top of my tinnitus...  so when I see some guard and a whistle, I have to cover up my ears like an autistic person... as if the whistle makes the traffic slow better... lol

I've had tinnitus since my 30s.  I probably had a genetic predisposition for it as my mother has it but I may have hastened by playing my electric guitar too loud in my younger days.  Sound exposure is a definite no-no.   It got worse after I got my first covid vax.  It became sensitized to certain foods, most likely as a result to activating the histamine system (MAST cell syndrome).  It has now mostly normalized back to what it was before the vax so that's good.  I can handle it.

It may be the result of long term inflammation so anything you can do to reduce inflammation from foods, stress, etc might be worth examining.

I found Julian Cowan Hill to be helpful in his holistic approach.

Really sorry to hear! He has literally said in one of his videos that tinnitus is a "temporary condition". Personally, I don't care how many people he has helped with his videos - he's spreading harmful misinformation that will ultimately harm tinnitus sufferers, such as everyone being able to tune out or actually reduce their tinnitus. He's convinced to have found all the right answers regarding tinnitus, everyone who disagrees is just a non-believer. If he was a truly genuine person, he'd take the criticism to heart and change the way he words his advice - he could help just as many people without spreading falsehoods and misconceptions but he doesn't care.
