PHANG NGA (NNT) - Public Health Minister Dr Cholnan Srikaew has inaugurated the “SKY Doctor” air transport drill in Phang Nga province, showcasing an improvement in Thailand's emergency medical services.

The event, a major development for emergency response, saw the participation of high-ranking officials, including Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, Permanent Secretary for Public Health, along with administrative staff, medical professionals, village health volunteers, and various agency representatives.

Flight Lieutenant Atchariya Pangma, Secretary-General of the National Institute for Emergency Medicine, briefed attendees on the project's progress and goals.

Dr Cholnan led a tour to inspect an ambulance boat and witnessed a live demonstration of the “SKY Doctor” air transport procedure at the temporary helipad of Koh Yao Wittaya School. This drill is part of the Ministry's effort to set up a dedicated emergency medical team focused on improving the speed and efficiency of transferring critical patients, enhancing the accessibility of urgent medical care, and boosting patient survival chances.

Flt Lt Atchariya highlighted that the main objective of air transporting patients is their quick and safe relocation. While the event was primarily demonstrative, it set the stage for actual patient transports from Koh Yao district and nearby areas to begin immediately.
